Circular reasoning is all fun and games, until it starts to have an effect on your daily life.

I do have Friday off, so I may find a bit of it. However, I have a nasty project that I have been putting off for far too long: chasing down a rattle in one of my Vandersteens. It only happens at certain frequencies, so I suspect one of the drivers is damaged (either the woofer or the midrange) but before I can get an RMA from Vandersteen I have a lot of testing to do first, such as switching wires, crossovers, etc., and trying to narrow down the frequency range causing the problem. That means pulling out my rack and crawling around a lot and I just have not had the gumption to do it. I decided to dedicate Friday to the task. Hopefully, if it is one of the drivers, they can talk me through removing it and sending it in so that I do not have to ship the entire speaker back. (Just re-packing it would take hours!)

The warranty is five years, so I am covered even if I drag my feet, but it is such a drudgery that I keep putting it off. But I have a bunch of new CDs and SACDs that I would really love to listen to, and while the problem is intermittent, it is still too distracting to let me do so. So I am torn between desire to enjoy my music and being too lazy to start solving the problem!

It is not the warranty that concerns me, or your ability to identify the problem. It's the effort you described to arrive at the answer. Sounds a tad daunting.

Well, obviously they do not want someone shipping something back and have it turn out that the problem was with the amplifier, so they make everyone do some simple process of elimination. Only when you are talking about 130lb speakers, a fifty-pound rack and God knows how many pounds of amplifiers and other equipment, to say nothing of a rat's nest of cables, nothing is simple!

East if you haven't got some ignition parts on ebay here lately now may be a good time. Over the last three weeks I have spend about 200 dollars and got one Mallory ignition box, one jacobs ultra coil and milage master box, 3 mallory distributors and 3 accel distributors. I paid 5 bucks plus shipping for the last one. It's like no one is bidding on them lately. Just about got all the parts I need now for the 52 and 55. Plus while they are this cheap they make great trading stuff.

If I may interject, how much work do you think it would be to replace diff mounts (front and rear) without access to a hoist? Debating whether to do myself or just have a mechanic shop do the work . . .

Well I found a set of original of 15x7 N24's. They are kinda rough and need to be refinished. No major damage that I see though. I still have to check the other 2. No center caps either but classic actually sells repos.

Refinishing isn't a problem so long as there is no structural damage. Doesn't appear to be any crack in the wheel you posted a picture of. Now you need to think about tires!

Today I purchased a 1989 base model firebird equipped with a 350, or what is left of it after a kid ran it up on something tweaking the subframe and it was picked clean by the previous owner who purchased it as a parts car. I bought it for the mint quarter panels and firewall so I really cant complain.

I made an arrangement with him on the wheels Pontiac "High Tech" Wheels. I buy them now he buys them back when I am done with them. I hope hes still interested in buying them once I am done with them. I would have gladly thrown the N24s on them but they don't have any rubber on them.

Can that even be sold as a car?

I didn't quite understand what's going on with the wheels. You bought them from him to use for a while and then you're going to sell them back to him?

More or less. I have no use for the wheels just needed something to keep the body on for now. He is still interested in them so when im done with them I may end up selling them back to him. If not it shouldn't be too hard to find somebody else to give me the $25 a wheel back.

It has a title and a clear one at that so yes it can be bought as a car as scary as that is. Luckily there will not be anything left of it by the time im done using it as a sheet metal donor. What ever is left will be headed to the crusher with the exception of my steering wheel and the formula wheels. I offered the passenger side floor to my friend for future f body projects (about the only part im not using that is still good) but he does not foresee a need. (between my car and the 84 camaro hes doing I think he has about had his fill of these cars) I am going to offer the rear end that is in it to somebody else I know for his father son rat rod project but I doubt hes going to want a weak gm unit of unknown history and specs.

Speaking of rat rods, here is one of the local cars at doing a radar run on the runway of the Osceola Municipal Airport at last year's Wheels and Wings. Strangely enough, I live right next to the airport, but never really hear much noise while all this is going on . . .

That is a nice looking Fiat. Looks like a original body unless they took the time to cut out the doors and add the original style hinges.

It still has yet to go in for the quarter panel and door replacement. Those are just some pictures from the other day when I had it out.

I am considering putting it in the bird when it gets its new drive train the problem is its missing its bracket and wiring harness. The company is still in business and still makes this model tach. I will have to get in contact with them for replacement parts should i decide to install it. If not I may offer it to my friend who is building a rat rod with his son.
