It may well be the laser. You did mention that most of your other games are CD-Rs and that they play fine. I just meant that the fact that many/most discs play fine does not mean that you could not still have problems with any one disc. Have you tried burning another copy?

I think I have figured it out. Now its just a matter of figuring out what programs I need to burn the disc in a manner that the pce can read it. I was doing some thinking about it and I have run into this problem before. Before I owned lunar the silver star for scd I also burned that and ran into a similar problem. In short its a result of the console not being able to find the audio data. It is in mp3 format and there lies the problem (and one image i was trying to use is missing audio tracks apparently?) I am going to convert them to wav format and then use sega cue maker and then reburn them.

We will see what the outcome is.

I think that the other games I have burned that worked were already in wav.

There is no way that the Sega could read mp3 data as the codec had not even been released yet. Lowly mpeg-1 was first published in 1993, with mp3 a few years down the road.

The odd part is though that when burned the mp3 data is converted by the burning program into mixed mode audio cd format so I don't know if it really has any impact. I tried burning another to no avail.

Luckily there is an original copy of beyond shadowgate on ebay right now (quite rare to see one listed) I might have to bid on it, for you know research purposes.

The mixed mode format may still be incompatible. Best to stick with whatever format is native to the Sega.

PCE, and that is the native format. Mixed mode tracks. Track 1 being a warning message that is played when the disc is inserted into an audio cd player track 2 being game data and track 3+ being the games soundtrack in audio cd format.

That is what is confusing me. The mp3's are converted into audio cd format when burned so I dont see why it should make a difference. Maybe im overlooking something stupid like disc at once vs track at once. I will have to look into it further

Oh and sega cue maker has a multitude of uses, Even for things that are not games at all it is just a cue sheet generator that was originally written for the sega community.

Something on the disc is confusing the player. It may even be simple matter of how it is indexed.

You may just have to give it up and get a Vectrex instead!

But with the vectrex I would not be able to play games prior to affording them like I do with this and my sega cd.

Speaking of which I just scored that original complete copy of Exile 2: Wicked Phenomenon that just ended on ebay. It is very rare. I have only ever seen one other copy on ebay and it is just the disc, No artwork and the seller wants more money then what I won this for.

$70. It seems like a lot but I have wasted $50 on brand new games that completely sucked. I started playing this one and it is awesome. It is worth it to me to have an original copy.

Now that copy of beyond shadow gate that is bidding for $127 right now. That is where I am going to have to draw the line.

Has anybody noticed that my PCE is starting to look like my sega tower of power?

These things would be awsome to play battle ship with.Something retro - Page 6 Thlol

Time to play the PCECD loom port so I don't have to mess with dosbox.
