Re: Lace Wigs Lead to All Kinds of New Conversation
What do you think of the series? I tried rewatching a few years back and I gave up. While some episodes hold up, I found too many stale and contrived.

I am part way through the first season and still enjoying it. There are still weak episodes sprinkled in, but that is inevitable.
Still looking for a good sale on Breaking Bad . . .

Breaking Bad is actually worth the full sticker price.

I am sure it is. I am also getting increasingly cheap -- especially considering the large sum that I spend on software as it is.

That's fair. I was just saying. Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul are awesome together and have great screen presence, as do a number of the supporting actors.

Speaking of Cranston, it is of course taken for granted that if they ever get around to releasing more than the first season of Malcolm on DVD, that will be taking all of my money. But in the meantime if I can get the first two seasons of Breaking on Blu in the $20 range, I will go for it.

As much as I enjoy Malcolm in the Middle, I enjoy Breaking Bad that much more.

Re: Lace Wigs Lead to All Kinds of New Conversation
I picked up the first season at Best Buy over the weekend for $25. I am five episodes in and enjoying it immensely.
Saw Captain America while I was down there. It was acceptable, but a bit flat, especially in the actions scenes. Contrary to many of the reviews and the fanboys, I much preferred Thor. On the other hand, I had a fabulous meal at a Maylaisian restaurant afterward, so it made the weekend a bit tastier.

I heard good things about Thor, but I haven't seen the film. I've never been a big Thor fan, so my interest in the film was slight.

Kenneth Brannagh was an inspired choice as director. He embraced the mythology whole-heartedly and without irony. There is humor in the film, much of it refreshingly low-key and subtle, but it avoids self-parody.
Too busy to watch any more Bad, dammit.

Well, the first season is short (only seven episodes), so you'll get a little more mileage this way.
Have you gone to see Cowboys versus Aliens? I heard that it was fairly well done and a good escape movie.

Re: Lace Wigs Lead to All Kinds of New Conversation
I just figured out last night that there were only seven episodes. It makes me glad that I waited until I could get it for under $30. I only have two episodes left.
I wanted to see Cowboys, but I have been so burned out and tired lately that I have not wanted to drive down to the Cities on the weekends. Last weekend was the first time that I have gone to a movie in nearly six weeks -- damn near a record for me. I have missed several movies that I wanted to see. I may go back down this weekend.

Re: Lace Wigs Lead to All Kinds of New Conversation
Season 2 and Season 3 of Bad are 13 episodes each, which is pretty standard for an AMC series. Season 4 only just started, so it will be some time before we see that released on Blu. How about Caprica? Have you given that a whirl? I was going to start the series last night, but was too beat after working late yet again.

I still have not seen Caprica. Breaking Bad has been at the top of my short list, though I am also keeping my eyes on the new run of Dr. Who. Those are grossly overpriced, even on DVD.

Yep, the doctor is well overpriced. BBC pricing is almost as bad as HBO pricing on home video.

Arguably it may even be worse. Have you watched any of the new run?

Re: Lace Wigs Lead to All Kinds of New Conversation
I have, but I have been too cheap to pick up all of the seasons. And even though the new series is well done, it still lacks polish and strikes me as a low-budget cult production. I'm likely not being fair, but I actually thought the early Doctor Whos from the 60s were more genuine.

I have always been a Baker boy myself. I have a hard time watching the earlier shows; Baker at least made his run entertaining even when the production values or the writing failed him.

I liked Hartnell. That said, my favourite Dr. Who was Cushing, even though he was never a part of the series.

Somewhat fitting, given that we were discussing Dr. Who.

Season 2 is a more complete season. I think you'll enjoy that one.

Re: Lace Wigs Lead to All Kinds of New Conversation
I have a lot that I have picked up lately that I need to get through. I grabbed Chasing Amy, Clerks, Hero, Tommy Boy, and Cool Hand Luke for $5-$10 each, plus I grabbed the new releases of Animal House, The Blues Brothers and The Big Lebowski. And I have yet to finish a couple of the Criterions that I picke up earlier. If I grab season two of Bad, it will definitely push all of those to the wayside.
