When you've blew your blown, you blown your blew.

Well, you dodged one bullet; I thought that Prometheus was the worst film of Ridley Scott's entire career. The script was about as bad as they get.

Oh dear.

I did make it out to Avengers, with Seajunior in toe. All-in-all, I thought it was fine for what it was. I thought Robert Downey Jr. stole the show, but I was presently surprised by Mark Ruffalo. I thought he made a much more believable Bruce Banner than either Bana or Norton.

And while I have not gotten out to see Cabin, I was able to find time to spin my copy of District 9 . . .

Ruffalo was fantastic, and clearly the best Bruce (or David) Banner ever. Not only that, but I thought that their version of the Hulk himself was the best ever done. For once, he was as powerful as he should be, and the attitude was great. (Plus, for once the CGI character had real weight and impact, rather than looking "floaty" and video game-like.)

There was one thing that I wish they had allowed the Hulk to do though, and that was pick up Thor's hammer. It's happened in the comics and the Hulk is the only one other than Thor to have been able to pick up the hammer (at least as far as I'm aware). I was rooting for the Hulk to pick it up and hurl it back at Thor.

Yes, but the sucker punch more than made up for that! (To say nothing of the fate of a certain villain . . . )

I think for the geeks in the audience, picking up Thor's hammer would have spoken to just how strong the Hulk can get.

The sucker punch was awesome, as was the pounding on Loki.

As long as you remember the clap only a few times, you should be fine.

I did. I haven't ready any of the books, but I was surprised by the turn of events. Certainly did not expect a certain beheading, for example. I guess Martin and the show's creators aren't afraid to kill off main characters, which is a good thing.

Speaking of series, did you ever get around to watching Caprica?

No, that one seemed much less interesting to me. I think that I prefer to keep my BSG memories as unadulterated as possible.

Actually, my favorite exit in Thrones was the golden crown. With that character and the one that you mentioned, it really shows how unafraid Martin is not just to kill off characters, but to change the direction of the whole story. Those two in particular really change the overall dynamic.

Hopefully we will have season two of Thrones by the end of the year. Gonna be a long haul waiting for season five of Breaking Bad . . .

Season 5 is about to kick off, but it will take some time for it to reach video. I assume you've wrapped up Season 4? I loved the ending.

I did for the most part, but I actually did not care for the last shot. Not so much because of dramatic reasons, as it made sense the way the character is arcing, but more because of logical reasons -- I just cannot see a believable way that he could have pulled off using that plant to do what he supposedly did (to say nothing of lifting the cigarette.) Too much for someone that clumsy to have done.

Those details aside, it was what led up to the event that impressed me. It cemented who Walter has become. He had to manipulate Jesse (through use of the plant you allude to) and Hector and work with (and influence) Saul to get what he wanted. In the process, he convinced others that they also needed the same conclusion that Walter was seeking. By doing so, Walt truly is breaking bad.

Are you saying that Walt is too clumsy to have managed a slight of hand with the cigarette pack? Maybe, but I think that is also an illustration of how Walt portrays one thing, but is really another.

I was trying to be relatively vague and spoiler-free, but since you went down that road . . . I do not buy any of it -- how he got the cigarette out of the pack without Jessie noticing, and how he got the kid to eat the berries. When exactly did he do that, and how did he pull it off?

I agree that it makes perfect dramatic sense; it just does not make logical sense. Minor quibble, but when a major dramatic moment happens and you keep thinking, "Wait a minute," it kind of spoils the moment.

Cabin in the Woods - Page 4 Empty WARNING: Breaking Bad, Season 4 Spoilers at this Point

Post  Seamaster Thu Jul 05, 2012 10:08 am

I thought he pulled the cigarette when we see him light the cigarette and then put it out after one or two puffs. He would've avoided the ricin by doing that. I agree that it's far-fetched, but the whole premise is a bit far-fetched at this point, so I was willing to go along for the ride. The berries? I don't know. We are never told exactly how that transpires, but it doesn't really matter from a dramatic point of view.

I get where you're coming from. To be honest, I preferred the show in the earlier seasons when Walt was still battling the slip into badness. Watching him play two lives was entertaining, even stressful, as I imagined what that must have been like. Tormented is one word that comes to mind. As Walt embraces this new lifestyle, I actually find his character less interesting, but I suppose it is a fitting evolution of that character's story.

I took a chance by introducing spoilers because both you and Blur had indicated that you had watched Season 4. No one else on these boards (and there aren't that many to begin with!) appear to be interested in the show. But, I've added a warning to the post's title, just in case.

I had forgotten about him bumming the cigarette, but even that would require him to select the correct one looking from the other side of the thing. Still not buying it.

Remember that Jesse kept that one cigarette turned upside down. Again, far-fetched, but Walt could have removed that cigarette and replaced it with another, harmless cigarette.

Well, they will most likely offer some sort of explanation during the next season, but they will have to work really hard to not make it a Lost-like unsatisfying implausibility.

Their writers are good, but they did go down a pretty fantastical path. You may have to suspend disbelief or accept that you do not buy their pitch.

I think that was a key problem with Prometheus: Damon Lindelof wrote the final draft of the screenplay. And it is filled with Lost-like make-it-up-as-you-go-along lack of logic.
