I have not seen Abominable. Sounds like an 80s film?

Re: The Undying Zombie Thread
I thought that we had already talked about it. It was made in 2006 and directed by the son of Lalo Schifrin (and yes, daddy did the music for the movie.) It is moderately tongue-in-cheek, but the really cool thing is that it is really an homage/partial remake of Rear Window -- but with a sasquatch!

Oh, I'm sure we did, and now that I think about it I vaguely recall the discussion . . . .

Finished the book World War Z, by the way. It was quite good, though it makes it more clear how little the movie is actually going to have to do with it. I somehow completely missed that Max Brooks is Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft's son.

Another book I own, but have not read. I started the first chapter some time ago, but never got back to it.

Nice.
Seajunior has been asking to see this movie, but I'm not sure. Having said that, he handled the Lord of the Rings trilogy just fine.

Well, I do know from the reviews that there is no gore in it at all. Everything is implied, to secure the PG-13 rating. Whether or not it might be too scary is a whole 'nuther question. On the other hand, the whole LOTR trilogy got pretty intense, and with gore as well -- Eve barely made it through that one. I highly doubt that World War Z is much worse.

Re: The Undying Zombie Thread
We ended up seeing it. Overall, it's fairly tame, as far as zombie flicks go, and is gore free. Walking Dead, by comparison, makes it look like a kid's tale. There is suspense throughout, but nothing more than you'd expect from any other Armageddon or disaster-themed movie. There were a couple of scenes that made Seajunior shift in his seat, but it wasn't enough to keep him awake later that night or give him nightmares.
As I haven't read the book, I can't compare the movie to the book. Judging it only on its film merits, it was fine. Nothing spectacular, but nothing overly wrong either. It was your typical summer blockbuster that had some fun moments.

Re: The Undying Zombie Thread
Speaking of zombies, I watched the Blu-Ray for Shawn of the Dead on my new setup today, and it looked stellar! That movie may be rapidly rising to my top ten, if not top five, all-time favorite zombie movies, despite being a comedy. It works so well because it is both a well-done comedy AND a well-done zombie film.

Most people I've spoken to love that movie. It never really won me over. Don't get me wrong, I don't think it is a bad movie, but it is never a movie I reach for when I'm looking for something fun to watch.

I am still very fond of the Evil Dead series, really like the third one, army of darkness.

Re: The Undying Zombie Thread
The second one is my favorite, followed by the third. But those are really possession films more than zombie films, even if the bodily dismemberment part fits in the zombie genre.
Shawn of the Dead is really worth multiple viewings. There are a lot of subtle details that are only noticeable after the first run-through.

Re: The Undying Zombie Thread
Well, I've never been one to shy away from watching a zombie movie, especially when I have an excuse! Sounds like a rewatch is in order.
To be honest, I think I just prefer my zombie movies to be without comedy. Zombieland, for example, was fun, but it's not one of my favourites. And, yes, I appreciate that I'm a hypocrite because I like Planet Terror, which is almost just as much of a comedy. Guess I'm fickle.

Re: The Undying Zombie Thread
Taste is by definition fickle. Nothing wrong with that.
I picked up Shawn as part of a double-disc set paired with Hot Fuzz. All for $12.50, which is hard to beat. It comes with an insert advertising The World's End, so the pairing was definitely an intentional one to capitalize on the loose trilogy. And interestingly, I had the same reaction to Hot Fuzz that you did to Shawn of the Dead, so I think that a rewatch of the latter film is definitely in order for me.
