Awesome, just awesome
This is almost as good as the Blue Jeans Cable demolition of Monster Cable's attempt to threaten them:

The actual response, in my opinion, is better than the Blue Jeans response, but the latter still wins on overall points and for making a larger statement.

Just got back from vacation--if you can call Disney World with the kids and grandkids a vacation The trip went well but the rain was unending, and I don't just mean the typical afternoon Florida showers. It rained on and off each day except our last day there when we toured the Kennedy Space Center. At least we got out before the hurricane rolls in this week.
I'm still working part-time to pay for the fuel for the rv and the other "necessary" toys. Thanks for the well wishes.

Wisconsin has damn near been experiencing a hurricane party of its own, though things seem to have calmed down for the last few weeks. I turned on our sprinklers one time this season prior to last week, and that was only because I had just put down gypsum and needed it watered immediately.

Needless to say, I haven't had to turn on the sprinklers at all this year . . .

Have you turned on the sump pump?

Re: Awesome, just awesome
Some people's sump pumps simply couldn't keep up. And some were downright overwhelmed with the amount of water that came in. Part of the problem with Calgary is that the older communities are near the Bow and Elbow rivers and in flood plains. These communities were built during the pioneering days where people needed to be near water for irrigation and, well, for survival. Those communities were hit the worst. Having said that, there are also newer communities, also in flood plains, that make you wonder what developers were thinking.
Here is an interesting opinion article from one of our local papers:

Interesting, if a bit confusing for someone who is not familiar with the area. FEMA did just redraw flood plain maps in our area, but so little of Osceola is potentially affected by flooding that it has little practical effect for us.

Re: Awesome, just awesome
Fair one. The general gist is that there are two large rivers running through Calgary and that the flood could have been worse, based on past floods and modelling data (which is, of course, hypothetical -- scientifically founded, but still hypothetical). The author fails to highlight that last part. At any rate, he then comments on communities that were built in known flood plains, and how that might not have been the best decision by developers. He has a point. The rest is political commentary on flood relief, and not really to do with the area.

Re: Awesome, just awesome
There are plenty of flood plain areas in Minnesota and Wisconsin, of course, and every time there is flooding it starts a fair debate about the wisdom of developing in those areas. Of course, you could apply the same argument to all of Tornado Alley, so the question becomes where do you draw the line?
