Feel the RAGE! Empty Feel the RAGE!

Post  ADOR Sun Mar 09, 2014 10:21 am

Well in search of a single Rage or Omen I now have 2 Rages. I think the second unit has been mailed out but I am not sure yet. I know it will be there time I get home in two more weeks. This is that Rage from ebay. I talked to the guy about shipping, he said he would. I put the minimum bid in and forgot about it for a few days until I got a alert about winning if for the starting bid. So here it is. These pictures were taken two weeks ago before I left the house. I know this case is missing a few things but this will be the first one I am building. The second unit is complete and I think a few of you will recognize it when I post pictures of it when I get home.

Vinegar or wd40 should aid in label removal on the painted surfaces. Use some soapy water. If the wd40 leaves it looking kind of greasy some dish soap and water should take care of it. If you want to go crazy you could use some carnauba wax.

As you can see by the dust it hasn't been used in a while. I think I am going to use dual 2.5" hard drives in the same set up that is in my Hexx. Where you remove the floppy drive slot cover and they go there.

That will straighten out fairly easily. Looks like somebody got over anxious removing the io shield. I have bent my fair share when parting out systems that I knew the case was getting scraped; Sometimes I will use a tool rather then risk cutting my hand on junk.

If you have any reference questions on cable routing or anything else feel free to ask. Lago's is in my collection in its stock configuration. Don't have the heart to tear into it when I know cooling is going to be an issue with modern components anyway. Plus the omen is my modern gaming pc. Holding onto the rage as one of my retro pcs for now.

Given any thought to cpu or video card cooling? Maybe consider getting the top panel from the stock lian li counterpart and mod it for a 3x120 rad? Something like this www.ebay.com/itm/331133971389 would have done nicely. Should be able to get a 2-3x5.25 res in there which would leave pump placement. You can see how one guy watercooled one here http://www.notebookforums.com/t/179757/superman-edition-pics/20

The site is currently down for maintenance though.

Wait nvm i found it

Your other option would be to mod the bottom of the case (it is elevated off the ground anyway) and mount a rad along the bottom and have fans pulling in cool air from under the build) Something like the cool air intake system on my silverstone FT02. (not sure that you can make the radiator the lowest point in the loop and lay it down like that, maybe possible with a higher cfm pump, dont know never got that far into water cooling) Something to consider since yours did not come with the optional lower hdd cage anyway. (And the 3.5 cage is quickly becoming irrelevant with the advent of ssds) For the drives this would be really cool: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817994142

It would also free up room for water cooling components by allowing you to get rid of the 3.5" cage. (Well not get rid of but set aside)
