Re: My latest voodoo projects
Nope, that was a different model than my RAGE SLi. I pre-ordered mine before they were available -- my computer was literally one of the first SLi rigs available on the market. It does not have the perforated front panel, and it has a heavy swinging door that hides the drive bays. I will take a picture tonight and see if anyone recognizes it.
I may be mistaken, but I also think that it did not have water cooling available at the time. I pimped mine out (internally, at least) as much as Voodoo would allow at the time, and it is air-cooled.

Oh, Then it must be based off of the rage f:1

The rage f:1 were based off of the lian li pc-61
Apparently they were experimenting with water cooling on the F:1 as you can see a green tube by the graphics card in the first photo.

Bingo. That looks nearly identical to mine (right down to the color, both internal and external.) If I ever upgrade my desktop (I have just bought laptops lately) would you have any interest in the case?

Re: My latest voodoo projects
The old retro Voodoo that was posted (which looks like an Iron Chef) might have a Voodoo case, but the internals have been swapped out. While Voodoo did, at one time, offer grey boxes, they, at the very least, cleaned up the interior with tidy cabling and pimped out motherboards, if possible.
The windows started with the early EGAD models. Laser-cut windows started with the F-Class.

I'm calling dibs, I'm surprised your even putting that out there.
Re: My latest voodoo projects
I found my donor screen today. Has a nice large crack and a dead ccfl.
This is the 4th lcd screen I have dissembled. The 4 prior ones were for backlight replacement (2 good screens and 2 cracked screens) Both of which turned out good. I useually dissemble the cracked ones first to learn how the screen comes apart. For this project there was no "good" screen so I just tore into it as per useual.
I am not sure if you guys have ever pulled one apart before so I will briefly go over the dissembly
Said basement laptop, In this case a Pentium 1 133mhz Toshiba 440CDT
Removed from laptop (I jumped the gun a bit and pulled the silver trim, but its only held in place with small plastic tabs that protrude through the metal, And on this model screen 4 tiny screws)
Shot without metal frame
Then its just a matter of unfolding the screen, Useually held in place with adhesive
On the left the smashed tft panel, On the right the coveted florcent backlighting paper and polerized paper
If I cut it right I should have enough to do both the logo and side mask:
And for comparison a laser etched one:
You guys can't deny that this is one of my better ideas
Made 2 templates and fitted them to get an idea of how it will look:

Looks pretty smooth!!!
The Rage I have doesn't have the perforated back plate, that does add a lot (I believe the one I have, uninstalled is not drilled)!!! I might have to put mine on, however, I guess it would limit what PSU you could swing in there.

While I no longer use the desktop for gaming, I still use it for writing, editing photos and similar tasks. Once I finally upgrade, it will be an aluminum brick to me. I am not a tinkerer when it comes to computers -- I just spend the money and let someone else do the work. I have even given up doing my own repairs on my bicycle. At this point of my life, time is money.
So while I do not have any immediate plans for upgrading, when it finally happens you are first in line for the case on the old one.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
I thought the rage was made out of steel
Have you given any consideration to which brand you are going to get? Are you looking for another "Powerful Personal Computer" Or just a modern desktop?
I doubt that HP/Voodoo is planning to come out with any powerful desktops at this point, There focus seems to have shifted to marketing HP Envy laptops.
There is a lot of Hype surrounding Digital Storm these days. I don't know how good they actually are but they currently hold a 9.68/10 on resellerratings.com http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Digital_Storm
I still wouldn't get an alienware, There case dosn't look that good in person and there lower end air cooled desktop sounds like a helicopter taking off.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
I have not put a lot of thought into it, but I will probably go for a more mid-priced rig (likely under $3000) from a company like Digital Storm, Maingear or something similar. I do not want to mess with an Alienware or even a Falcon Northwest at this point -- I am more concerned with the power than the looks. I keep watching the reviews on PC Gamer to see if a specific model stands out -- that is how I chose my laptop a few years ago, and I have been happy with their recommendation.
But if you have any thoughts or recommendations, please share!

Re: My latest voodoo projects
I would spec a system out and have EastC build a comparable one for you, your $3k rig will be about $1650. I'd help too...
Re: My latest voodoo projects
I'd be more then happy to help you build a system should you wish to.
I about finished cleaning up my basement today and I found one last gem:
(Posted right up, Too bad it takes rdram.)
I couldn't help notice the similarity to the intel desktop board used in the Fish Class:

Re: My latest voodoo projects
The Rage is a steel case, but it has an aluminium front panel.
East T: If you're looking to build an entire stable of rebuilt VoodooPC models, I might also be willing to offer you my Rage case at some point. One issue though is that the grill has a ding. When I last moved house, the person helping me move was not careful and laid it up against another hard object. That object left a ding in the grill. Nothing is damaged otherwise, but I don't know how hard it would be to source another grill.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
The front panel and the door are machined aluminum and quite heavy on their own, not even including the steel (steal?) on the rest of the case.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
Case wise for a new build lian li or silverstone is still the way to go.
I really like the internal layout of the TJ11-BW but its exterior and price tag really don't do much for me. The raven is nice but imo the Fortress FT02 is one of the nicest cases they offer.
And a review:
http://www.pureoverclock.com/article930.html
The nice thing about building your own pc is you get components at cost and if there is a problem you can send back the individual component instead of having to pay the return shipping on the entire system.
Have you had water cooling before, is it something that you are interested in? It works good but traditional systems do require maintenance about once a year unless you get a sealed system such as the H70.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
Water cooling is ok but I still prefer air. Less risks and if built right still offers good temperatures. For quality water blocks (An absolute necessity) the price adds up quickly. With the right case and fans you can barely tell your pc is running anyway.
Just to give you an idea I just took a reading on my omen's idle temperatures (The maga is less then ideal for air cooling)
cpu temp: 32c
Northbirdge: 41c
460GTX: 37c
With a 90° case or a haf case temperatures would be even lower.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
Unless you are doing heavy overclocking, I've never found the need for liquid cooling. It used to be a good way to keep down noise, but there are other quiet solutions nowadays.
Now I am off to find the bugger who stole my ability to properly spell!
