Re: My latest voodoo projects
I know what you mean on newer games, I do most of my gaming on single player. I got left for dead for pc a while back and still haven't got to play it. I have a machine at home that can do it but at the time I only had a dial up connection, I have dsl now. Steam kept wanting to download and install this and that, never would even let me go to single player. Since them I have really come to hate steam.

Loving the single player version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. I only play single player games, and only ones that I can play offline; I will be skipping Diablo III as a result.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
I just got my copy of Deus last night. I didn't get very far into it but so far so good.
Don't even get me started on the updates valve releases to "fix" things... The stupidest thing they have done to date was to release the l4d1 maps for l4d2. I feel like I am entitled to a refund for buying l4d1, Effectively I bought the same damn game twice. Except now it is unbalanced because the maps were not designed with chargers jockeys or spitters in mind.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
Deus and Dungeon Siege III actually ticked me off a bit as they require Steam activation and I actually had no intentions of installing Steam. Not much choice there. At least once activation and updating is done it seems to work fine in offline mode.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
Online gaming can be fun, but I much prefer a good single-player experience. Too bad so many games are focusing on multiplayer these days.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
When I am reading reviews of games, the first thing I check is the single-player experience, and skip over the multiplayer. It can be the greatest multiplayer game of all time but if the single player experience is weak I will look elsewhere.

Finished Deus Ex, and I am actually enjoying Dungeon Siege III. I want to wait to fool around with The Witcher 2 until after the 29th when they post a major update.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
Too bad the guy never mentioned the lcd screen is defective. I will give him the opportunity to make it right and if that does not work I will be leaving him a negative.
I almost forgot to mention I finally caved in and replaced the all annoying hanspree with a samsung 27". It is accented in red and matches the omen well.
As you can see it has led back lighting. I tested it for dead pixels and looked for dark spots and I have yet to find one. I can not believe how much larger an extra 2" makes the display seem.
Re: My latest voodoo projects
We need to Plan out voodoo buying better East. If I would of known you wanted it I wouldn't of been trying to get that Voodoo, lol. I may of bid higher on it but I had forgot about it out at work. Glad to see you got it though. Now why you are at it just have a sticker shop copy the voodoo tattoo on the laptop and put it over the hood of your car

Re: My latest voodoo projects
I agree that we should coordinate better. I actually placed the minimum bid on it when it was first listed just because I was paranoid it would get taken down. I have a soft spot for these things and I thought it would be an awesome little unit to play mp3's with in the trans am. Its an even bigger plus that its got built in blue tooth. I hope I can get about $25 back from this guy toward a replacement screen as this one is no where near as it was described. Good working used screens sell for rougly $50. I would be more then willing to kick in $25 toward a screen providing I can find one that has no dead pixels/pressure marks. When he said 7/10 I assumed that is what he meant.
The w5a and w5fm are so similar that I am actually considering ordering a board and upgrading it to core 2 duo if i can verify everything will line up.
It cleaned up halfway decent. I got all of the residue off using meguiars carnauba gold. I partially filled the deep scratch in the lid with some touch up paint. I plan to work it in until it is as unnoticeable as possible.
I will post up some better pictures soon.
On another note I am really enjoying this lcd. It even auto dims based on the lighting in the room. It seems so much larger then my 25" I am still not use to the extra 2".

I was talking about the monitor. And you guys wonder why Roz and PO never talk to us anymore...
Re: My latest voodoo projects
I bought a w5fm motherboard today. As best I can tell it should be a direct swap for the w5a. It has an extra connector however I do not for see having a problem.
Instead of having a mpci slot it has a mpcie slot and instead of accepting ide drives I believe it accepts sata. I am going to see if I can use the p4m for now if not I will go ahead and order a core 2 duo in the next couple of days.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
I looked into the w5fm's chipset and it does support the p4m so I will be using that for now.
I mentioned I tore down the 222 the other night. Here is a couple of pics of the base plastics getting fixed
There is only 1 more cracked part to fix on the base. Then I can move on to fixing the small cracked piece on the lcd bezel.
Believe it or not the masking tape held it together tightly. I will have to take a picture from the painted side after it finishes dry.
While I have it apart I should really locate or fabricate a replacement spring for the pcmcia slot cover.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
Its hard to belive this is the same base I started working on. All of the scratches have been filled with touch up paint and all of the cracked parts glued. And I got a partial refund for the defective lcd. Hopfully I can get this base done and find a wifi card before the board arrives. There should be one around here somewhere. The only part I was unable to fix is one of the screw holes in the upper right corner of the picture, Not because I couldn't Somebody had previously dissembled it and discarded the piece that was broken off.
Re: My latest voodoo projects
With the w5fm motherboard on its way I am starting to get excited. Just when I think I am done repairing the base plastics I found another crack. Boy am I glad im not the person that messed this up to begin with, Id be pissed.
Re: My latest voodoo projects
The w5fm board arrived today. It appears to be functional but the w5a cpu heatsink although seemingly the same has a different plug on it. Other then that everything is compatible with the new motherboard. The new board powers on just fine but will not post. It appears to be because it is not detecting the fan or does not like the pentium 4m. Thus starts the search for a compatible heatsink and a somewhat easier to find core 2 duo cpu.
I do not know why but it does not seem that there are many parts for sale for these laptops. I am taking that as a good sign that they usually do not break.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
Don't waste money on fable 3 guys. It has a bug in it that keeps corrupting save games. I bought it on sale on steam because it looked good but its unplayable as the game save keeps corrupting over. That combined with the fact its a windows live game and it always takes about a half hour for live to load my account makes for one fail of a game.

didn't read all 19 pages, but very interesting.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
As long as you read page 9 that's what counts.
I never did get around to bypassing the volume potentiometer though.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
After no less then 7 tries the last spot on the i222 base is securely glued back together. I am going to let it sit overnight for good measure but it looks to be nice and solid, It does not flex at all where it use to be cracked. The dried glue is interfering with the fitment of the pcmcia slot's dust cover so i will have to see what I can do with either an exacto knife or sand paper.
Re: My latest voodoo projects
Sounds like it is coming together nicely, I am just waiting on the parts of mine to get in so I can get started.
