Re: My latest voodoo projects
Tucked my sata cables behind the front panel wiring like I saw in a picture. It looks a lot neater. That and I finally got a wii controller working with the pc. I lost the driver disc for my bluetooth dongle and xp never had the driver. 7 includes the the appropriate driver which is nice for a change.

That's really all that matters.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
So I have been playing with an x86 distro oft android recently in vm. https://sites.google.com/a/android-x86.org/web/download
I have been fixing up my x60 a bit recently, Just ordered a working battery for it. What I would like to do once I dig up some ram is a duel boot with android / windows 7 off of a ssd. Android for IOS tasks and 7 for more in depth stuff. Thats provided android supports the wireless card thats in it. Getting sound working would be a bonus.
All in all it isnt looking too bad. Still needs an FN key, ram door and ram. Currently it has a 500gb seagate sata hdd.

I use to have x86 android on one of my toughbooks. CF-W5. Got most of it working but a few things were off. I haven't tried it since android 2.2 but go back ever so often to see what progress they have made on it.

The CF-W5 and CF-T5 are the two toughbooks I have tried it out on. The W model has dvd drive buit in under the palm rest. The T5 has touchscreen and no DVD. They are the Business class toughbooks. They don't come with GPS chips from the factory, even as a option. They did have Pcmcia slot and WWAN (optional) from the factory. I tried to put a GPS chip in the WWAN slot but it's locked out in the bios not to accept it.
1.06 core duo, ide harddrive, max 1.5 gb ram(512 mb on the motherboard, Some models can go up to 2GB but they have 1GB on the motherboard, rare)
On the touch model touch did work, but I never got it calibrated. The project was still young when I played with it. Maybe I should try it out again.

I love the names for these products. Wouldn't be out of place in a red-light district.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
Looks nice, Those are pentium m based. I actually have a few video cards laying around that would fit them. I am a bit light on cash though after getting the delco cd head rebuilt this past Friday. New knobs control shafts cd mechanism and back light bulbs. Works like new. Now I have to get off my lazy ass and get to making the adapter harness for it.
Re: My latest voodoo projects
If you are aren't going to mess with it I may put a bid in on it if it doesn't go too high.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
It looks similar to the M57U, one might be able to stuff the core 2 duo board in.
I am pretty sure that one is pentium m based though, You can also see the mouse buttons are different then the m57u
Although maybe not on second look, The m57u is wider and has a num pad. I think I was thinking of the m57u that I have video cards for.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
I am toying with the idea of doing a completely fanless media center build.
I am still picking out parts. The specs are by no means final and nothing is ordered yet.
Seasonic 520w fanless psu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151122
Seasonic 400w fanless psu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151097 - Might go with this one just because it consumes less watts, The only real draw is going to be the cpu.
Gigabyte GA-Z77X http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2276158&CatId=6976
Intel core i3 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7295299&CatId=6983 - 65w cpu
Silverstone HE02 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835220055&Tpk=SilverStone%20HE02&IsVirtualParent=1 - fanless upto 95w
16gb patriot http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3468754&CatId=4534
video card: MSI ATI Radeon 8940/x300 128mb, a pos card I already have in the closet, Presumably it uses very little power as there is no dedicated power connector on the card. Should go up to 2048 x 1536 according to the specs, Going to have to use a dvi to hdmi adapter though.
soundblaster z - Picked this up already for something else that didn't materialize.
with an ssd.
$565 after rebates and before ssd optical and case.
For the case I have enough stuff kicking around here that I am not going to order anything, Same goes for the optical drive.
I figure it can double as a private game server when necessary. It will have to wait until after I bring my car in this year.

Nice topower unit pulled out of an hp blackbird. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Topower-Powerbird-TOP1100WPBA-1100W-ATX-Power-Supply-HP-Voodoo-Blackbird-/121088066269
I wish I could find somebody selling just the cables from a fried one as they would work nicely with my max revo.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
Just got a free core 2 duo dell the other day. I started parting out the 5100 from a couple of pages back to complete this. I am however going to use the core 2 cpu in a custom build for my father. So I will have to pick one of those up too once I have a buyer in mind.
The 9200 is near mint. It was junked because it was throwing a thermal error. I already got it swapped out and cleared the thermal code and its running great. Its also nice it was discarded with 3gb of ddr2 still in it.
Should make a decent windows 7 box for somebody. You could probably do some entry level gaming if you add a better power supply and graphics card. It included a nice entry level 7300 LE when I got it.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
Got another free laptop today. Latitude d620. One hinge is broken the other is shot. Got a $3 pair of hinges off ebay. Thing sells refirbished on tiger for $199 so I can't complain too much. This ones got a pentium m but the chipset supports core 2 duo. It runs but I ran the battery dead (holds a decent charge surprisingly) It is also wwan ready if I was so inclined. I have an oem charger for these laptops around here somewhere.
