Blackbird 002 Radiator fit Empty Blackbird 002 Radiator fit

Hi everyone!

Thinking of upgrading the radiator in the blackbird 002 to a Nepton 240m. I know the Corsair H100 series (i, V2, Asetek and GTX) all seem to fit from doing some research online, but not every 240mm radiator seems to fit. I want it to fit into the radiator housing to keep the fan mount (which would be awesome). Just wondering if anyone here knew the dimensions of the housing? (i.e. the max size radiator it will fit).

Also, has anyone had any luck upgrading the slim DVD drives to SATA? The caddies and drives seems proprietary.

Anyone have a blackbird?

Many thanks!

Most of us have voodoo rigs but I seem to recall somebody around here complaining about the plastic pci clips on their blackbird. I am not sure if they are still active.

Best I can say without having a blackbird chassis to look at is try to find the dimensions of the radiator that is currently in there. I believe HP used an asetek cooler. Short of that you may have to do some disassembly and take some measurements.

As far as the sata drive upgrade, Laptop drives are pretty standardized. I don't think that HP reinvented the wheel. You may need an adapter cable though, You cant plug sata and power cables directly into a notebook drive. You will want to look at the Panasonic / Matsushita / Matshita (all the same company, Just different sub brands) UJ-267/272. Those are bluray writing sata interfacing slot loading units. See if you can post some pictures of your current optical drive setup before you order anything. I will see if I can tell you if you will be able to make it work.

This is the type of cable you will need.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/301699800289

http://www.ebay.com/itm/301826465070 (HP P/N: 690395-001 if the link dies in time)

You will need to splice a molex male connector onto the "HP" one. It has 2 holes which may or may not align with mounting points on the blackbird chassis. Just something else for you to look at.

Blackbird 002 Radiator fit Empty Fixed it up

Thanks for the tips East! I ended up putting a Corsair H100GTX in the radiator chassis. Fits like a glove! Smile I think anything larger would've given it some trouble though. I'm loving the fan mount though!

The plastic tooless PCI holders are quite fragile, since they are held to the metal hinges by friction/compression like the lid of a GLAD food container. So naturally when the plastic gets old it cracks and they fall off. Nothing some glue/epoxy can't fix though!

Regarding the Slim bay caddies, it looks like the area where the SATA ports would go are covered by plastic, since there's a backplane the PATA and LED ports run into. So I might have to remove that by force, and figure out another way to power the LED.
