Wow -- a question about watches, and Seamaster has yet to respond? His radar must be faulty.

I was busy prepping for an exam.

Nothing wrong with Seiko, actually, and it is one of the few brands that offer a purely in-house watch for around the $500 mark. I'd recommend a mechanical (hand-wind or automatic) watch, as I prefer the idea of tiny mechanical inner workings like gears, wheels and escapements working together to tell time, as opposed to a circuit board. Mechanical watches, if serviced, will also last several life times. But each to their own. You should go for what your wife will like best.

Incidentally, Seiko make some truly remarkable watches that easily stand up to some of the finest Swiss watches, and have prices to match!

Nothing wrong with Seiko -- I like them. They just seem beneath you.

Nah. I like nice watches, but I like affordable ones too, which can be very nice in their own way. No need to be a snob.

I must admit to preferring mechanical watches, which does preclude contemporary Timexes, Casios and the like from general consideration, but that doesn't mean I don't like or appreciate those watches for what they are. They are typically good timekeepers that are also quite shock resistant.

My last watch was a Seiko.

That's all fine and well, but it does not excuse you from going sans watch now!

That was in the mid-Nineties, so we are now over 15 years and counting -- and I can tell you how long it has been even without wearing a watch!

Some people are really bothered by wearing a watch, so I understand. For me, it's the reverse. I feel naked without a watch.

Oddly enough, I feel the same way when I am not wearing any clothing.

Never have felt the desire to wear a plaid skirt, but I will let you know if I change my mind.

By the way, Eve is with you about the watches. If she forgets to put it on when she leaves in the morning, she complains all day that her wrist feels naked. And to be fair, back in the days when I still wore one I felt the same way. But you do eventually get used to the difference and now it would feel weird to have one on. Kind of like the other "fashion" accessory that I used to have on that hand -- it felt weird when it went away, but I am use to not wearing it now.

Other fashion accessory? Are you referring to a ring, or am I missing something?

I thought you had once said that you were glad to be rid of a watch because wearing one bothered your wrist, but maybe I'm imagining things.

The Movado Red Label is a woman's automatic timepiece, but I think it might be a bit pricey. I'm not sure. I don't know much about the brand.
