Further off topic: I read where the artist (Jean Giraud) who used the moebius as his signature passed away.

Out of curiosity, are we talking specific model or brand? To me, Honda (and Acura), Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan (and Infinity), Subaru and Toyota (and Lexus) all look distinctly different.

Whether or not they look different from each other still does not mean that they are distinctive.

That "yes" after your post was actually intended to follow Seamaster's, but it lost all meaning by coming after yours. Regarding Moebius, the logo that I have used since the Mutthaboards days was actually borrowed from him (hence the different spelling):

I guess you have to have owned one or be an officiando to be able to tell the difference between the various lines and "swooshes' that comprise these logos.

But the blondest of the citizens in my home town recognizes the emblem on the front of my avatar when I drive it down the street.

You said what I was thinking -- they all seem like random, barely distinguishable swooshes.

I'll give you Toyota, Hyundai and Opel (not that you're likely to see one of those in the US) as having swooshy messes for a logo. The others I find okay or to have enough heritage behind the brand that the busyness in the logo can be excused.

Of the logos listed here (certainly not an exhaustive list), which are the biggest offenders: http://blog.companylogos.ws/automobile-logos/?

From your list: Mazda, Toyota, Lexus, and Hyundai when the name of the vehicle does not also appear below the logo. You can also add Acura to that list.

That's interesting. Mazda is supposed to have one of the most recognized logos in the world. And Honda spent a small fortune coming up with the Acura logo so that it would be instantly recognizable to western consumers.

Does the Cadillac emblem fail? It is often seen without the Cadillac name. What about the Chrysler wings or the Pontiac arrow (when they were still a brand)? Of the American companies, I still think Ford has one of the best.

If the logo is suppose to be shorthand for the name, it's hard to beat the Ford logo. Rolling Eyes

The balance of the American logos are something I grew up with. (However, the Pontiac logo that I remember was an Indianhead and the most recent Oldsmobile logo falls under the category of "lines and swooshes."). I can remember skipping school on a fall day to go downtown to see the new cars. It was a big deal for adults as well as kids in the "hotrod" days of the 50's and 60's.

Large quantities of money notwithstanding, I am with ethelred regarding most of the Japanese logos.

Clearly, we need to bring back the hood ornament. That'd fix things.

I think the Razer Blade is a miss, especially at $2800 USD.

...and as time goes by, I think Rahul was just lucky.

I just viewed the specs for the Razor Blade. In December I purchased essentially the same computer ( slightly thicker, but with (2) 500 GB hard drives) for half the price from Dell. I know price isn't everything, but so far I have not been disappointed.

The Razer Blade is great machine with its design but it's hardware is not worth it. I considered the Blade as work/fun laptop for when I'm on campus and on business trips. But the price and hardware just kill it. A same spec machine from Maingear or digital storm or sager, all the same Clevo model, is around $900 to $1100. I have read the reviews on it and I agree with them, that this is still a great first attempt by Razer to enter the PC gaming market. Their next model of the Blade will truly determine if they will stay in the pc builder market. I personally would love to see them offer it in a more customizable way and better yet do different case colors and such. OR..... Since they already took some tech that Voodoo developed with Intel on it, they should go back and use the Envy 133 carbon fiber chassis.

I paid over $4000 for my Digital Storm laptop, in a plain vanilla Clevo package, with specs that eat the Blade alive. I will take my plain vanilla powerhouse, thank you very much!

It seems ling the bling nowadays is targeting less than the top end for performance. That may be better for overall sales, since many if not most of the bling-lovers are not really spec hogs. But it does seem like a niche is not being served.

Well, if money isn't an issue, I am a sucker for tasteful bling, so long as all of the performance boxes are ticked. Mind you, my idea of bling is pretty tame (even mundane) compared with most.
