Actually, that was another misquote. What I said was that I wanted to improve both the way that the board communicates to its residents and the way that it receives communication from its residents; I never said anything about improving communication between board members. And, by the way, Rod is the one standing next to me. He is tall and thin. (And, for the record, at 5"10", I am right on the average as far as height goes.)

We do have broadband, of course, but that is one thing that I am pushing hard to improve. Our current data speeds are hardly attractive to new businesses, and the existing businesses are complaining about what they have.

which is more than i can say for my 2 year old elite stationary bike trainer whose weld broke yesterday so im going back to mountain equipment coop for their rock solid guarantee and see how rock solid it is.

ps. also yesterday my rear tube exploded and i heard a loud band like a gun and saw that the rear wheel rim edge metal exploded about 10 inches off and sent shrapnel hurling about - most likely metal fatigue. the guy at the bike store said i was lucky it didn't hit me as he's heard stories if this happening to others that went to hospital with the metal embedded in their legs ((

That sounded like fun. Good thing you avoided any shrapnel!

Reminds me of the time I went over sideways over a decade ago and scraped the skin off my knee down to the bone. Worse, I bent the front fork. (That was when I still had a steel-framed bike.) It was 4:30 on a Friday afternoon, so I walked back home and frantically went through the phone book looking for a shop near me that was still open, so I could get it fixed as soon as possible. I through the bike on a rack and drove over there before they closed -- without bothering to do anything about my knee. I got there just in time and was checking it in while blood was pouring down my leg. I apologized to the guy at the shop, but he said not to worry about it -- he would have done the same thing.

i also got lucky yesterday and the shop gave me a replacement trainer and $100 back because it was a demo and cheaper !!

Probably, but if you have spent a lot of time on a trainer, the rear wheel received much more stress than the front one did. I stopped using a trainer when I sold my old bike -- I run indoors on a treadmill now if the weather is sour. I would not want to put my main bike on a trainer; it is just too hard on the bike.

To train cardio during winter, I've moved toward a form of circuit training that involves lifting heavy weights and running laps or rope skipping. It works wonders and I'm in and out in about 30 to 40 minutes! I find it is a good way to maintain muscle mass, strength, and overall cardio conditioning. I didn't think it was possible to maintain all three at one time in one workout. Of course, it is an all-purpose approach. One could do much better in one area through dedicated training.

I'm a wimp and I only cycle in fair weather conditions. This past Sunday was the first time Calgary has seen decent weather this year. It is time to get on the bike.

Circuit training can definitley kill two birds with one stone. Actually, any weight routine can be a good cardio workout as well if you reduce or eliminate the time between sets. Supersetting opposing muscle groups can give the one muscle group a rest while still keeping your heart rate up.

I like jazz, but "mathematical harmony" is stretching it a bit. Only composers like John Cage really applied mathematics to music.

Actually, that is a good point. Any and all harmony can be described in mathematical terms when you break it down into the frequency domain, so what exactly does it mean?
