I am starting to think that a laptop is the way to go. These hdmi handshake issues are really starting to piss me off. If I turn my monitor on before my pc I just get the "sleep mode" blank screen on the monitor.

If I launch a game the monitor blanks and goes into sleep mode. Its really pissing me off that I have to keep turning my monitor off then back on to get video. Who ever it is that keeps releasing these half baked products and standards really needs to be shot. /points finger at IEEE or ANSI (No its not poorly coded drivers because I have the same bs when I turn my tv on before my ps3)

I blame all of the hollywood idiots that cried and bitched to get this so called "user transparent" anti piracy measure implemented in hdmi.

Well time to downgrade to dvi. There argument against that is "but your bluray will be down sampled," That is a small price to pay for less stress in life.

On that note does anybody want to trade me a 12ft dvi cable for a 12ft hdmi cable, Probably not but it never hurts to ask.

Ah, no. Any thoughts on the model laptop that I am considering? My current build is clocking in at around $4000, but I may tweak that. I really did not want to get into that kind of money. Of course, I am selling my old laptop to my dad for $300 and the RAGE to you for the same amount, so ultimately I can subtract that from the total . . .

One thing to watch out for if you are looking at the eon 17 / NP7282 is, It uses the previous generation of core i7 processors. These chips support more memory however you will not be able to utilize this in the NP7282 as its max memory appears to be capped at 12gb, Where as there NP8170 Supports the latest generation of core i7 processors, a maximum of 16gb of ram (the most that 1155 systems are capable of addressing in any configuration laptop or desktop) And comes with the same video card options as the NP7282 minus sli support. (And starts at only 1.5k)

You should deferentially shop around before you decide on a brand.

Other then that its a clevo, so get the maximum length warranty offered its a cheap investment...

I would like to think they have worked out most of the design flaws since this is about the 6/7th generation gaming laptop they have offered but id still get it since a replacement graphics card or motherboard will cost you more then the warranty alone. You may also want to get the zero dead pixel insurance as well as I swear that some of these companies will switch screens on you if you don't and give the dead pixel free ones to the people that purchase the insurance.

I do remember what you said before, but I was more interested in having you take a look at the specific options. I would link to the build I am experimenting with, but it does not save the info.

Are there any other models that you would recommend? That seems to be the one that many of the companies like Xotic or Origin are using. I definitely want a desktop replacement set up for hardcore gaming.

why buy a laptop when for a fraction of the cost you can a lace-wig?

ps. i almost always use my laptop now too, even at home with the desktops around

I hear you. Nowadays when you can get a laptop that is just as powerful as a desktop for nearly the same money, it just does not make sense to have both, especially if you do not mind lugging a larger one around. (If I was carrying it with me every day, I might feel differently.)

When purchasing a desk top replacement I recommend a good lap top cooler as both of the dtr's that I have had suffer from gererating too much heat.
After several inadequate units, I settled on an older version of this: http://www.zalman.com/eng/product/Product_Read.asp?idx=399. I wish the fans were stronger but it has a sturdy aluminum base and is wide enough for my computer.

im also thinking of getting a new smart phone with google andorid 2.3 os with mobile hotspot - so press a button and the phone becomes a wifi spot for your laptop outside

Zalman makes good stuff. I am more then satisfied with the cnps9900max. (Although I am less then satisfied with one of there fan controllers I had in my last build)

Well the DVI to HDMI cable I won arrived today and obviously it got rid of the HDMI handshake which solved my problem.
