In LA, rock radio stations don't let you forget RATM.

And here I thought agent only listened to jazz!

So, is this a RATM thread or our metal thread?

Genres I like (and examples)
Classic Rock https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MRu8N2K0NY
Hard Rock https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fw3L6qiFVQ
Melodic Death Metal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oPjjkOHn3A
Symphonic Metal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cA1IVutZAbw
Thrash Metal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17dUpEP9e6A

*Edit* forgot to add, I like some metalcore, it depends on the track more then the artist.
Here is an example.

All That Remains - Let them tremble for we are many

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melodic_death_metal

Originally the genre combined the harmony style and groove melodies of heavy metal with the harsh thrashing sound and vocals of death metal.[citation needed] Later the genre evolved due to many different influences; a notable evolution in the genre being the addition of keyboards. Melodic death metal contains more melodic guitar riffs, melodic solos, and occasionally acoustic guitar work rather than traditional death metal.

I hate it when people use the original word in the definition but you get the idea. The genre has a heavy influence on the melody and instrumentals. You will find more solos and breakdowns in this then traditional death metal

Some other good examples include

Dark Tranquillity
Norther - Frozen Angel

Thank you, but I know what the genre is -- I was just pointing out the irony in the name.

Put another way, it's basically Metallica gone heavy.

In the Rolling Stone list of the top 500 songs of all time, they quote Lars Ulrich about "The Unforgiven." I cannot remember the exact quote and do not have it handy, but he was talking about the first time that they played the song and people got their lighters out. He basically said that he wondered how badly Metallica had gone wrong!
