Been there, done that, and I agree.

Part of the insanity of health insurance is that the insurance company would not pay for the procedure. It shows how short-sighted they in regards to preventative treatment -- they would shell out thousands of dollars for childbirth, but are unwilling to spend a few hundred to save them that expense.

I was more fortunate in Canada. We have a centralized health care system and they do support the procedure. Patients are on their own if they want a reversal, though -- to the tune of about $5000 to $7000.

Why on God's Green Earth would someone do that?


As more proof of how backwards the insurance companies are down here, Eve has foot issues that would be greatly ameliorated by custom orthotics.  They cost a couple of hundred dollars a crack, though, and the insurance company will not pay for them.  On the other hand, if she injures herself they will end up paying thousands for the surgery.  Further, when she tried fighting them about it, their response was that she should give up running and find another form of exercise.  Mind you, one of the biggest things that keeps insurance companies from paying out is when people keep themselves physically fit, and as you well know, the biggest key to exercise is finding something that you like.  Eve's cardiovascular system is one of the healthiest that you will find short of a professional athlete (her resting heart rate is barely 50) and her blood pressure is at the rock bottom of the ideal range, so why on earth would you want to risk that by telling someone to give up exercise that they love?

I suppose couples who have lost their child to an accident or illness might want to try again. Or divorced folks who are in a new relationship and want to start a family with their new partner. There are a few reasons.

There are many silly rules and regulations that frustrate me to no end. Insurance companies are definitely one of the worst offenders.

The question about why anyone would do that was rhetorical, of course . . .
