Were you doing it and then found out there was a word for it, or the other way around?

Other way around. The urge was almost uncontrollable when I got home: "Hey, honey, come see what I learned today . . ."

Just as long as you resist the urge while at work.

HR got no sensayuma. (Points if you get that reference.)

I am sure that I probably already told you this story, but we had an HR person at the Best Buy in Richfield who had the very poor habit of never capitalizing anything in emails. She had been pushing the department heads to actively recruit employees from other local businesses, so to prove her point she took the sales manager, who was named Steve Kropp, and went to another business in the mall. Her email about the experience the next day read:

"last night, steve kropp and i went to the bed, bath and beyond."

He never lived that one down. I am not sure that the HR person ever knew what she had done.

In my experience, HR has always spoken their own dialect.

Amazing how using the Shift key every now and then can change meaning considerably.

I probably also told this story, but we got a memo many years ago from the HR Department at Bernicks regarding a change to our short-term disability insurance. The problem was that they never once spelled it out, and used the acronym STD insurance in the entire memo. I brought it to the sales manager at our plant and told him, "Damn, I knew the benefits at Bernicks were good, but I did not know they were THAT good!" When he got done laughing he sent them an email and they quietly re-wrote the memo.

At least your company had a sense of humour. My company also has STD insurance and when I pointed that out, I was greeted with a blank look. Must have been my delivery.

It is always all about delivery.

Mind you, the HR department never saw the humor in it, just the VP of sales! There is no such thing as a sense of humor in an HR department.
