Ebay RAGE case

The oldest boy got the water cooler, i5, motherboard and 760 gtx he wanted over the last couple of months from pinching his pennies and saving some by getting the motherboard and CPU from Ebay used. The only thing he recycled was has 16 gb of ram, some fans and his AMD case, lol. I got his phenom 2 x6 2.7 cpu, 970 extreme motherboard. And some where in this swap up he got my good 550 watt power supply. Starting last night I dug all the pieces out.


Today I got it put together, looking for my SD card adapter so I can load them up to my Flickr account.

I took out one of the floppy drive slots and installed a dual 2.5" hard drive rack in it's place. I will be putting another one in later on, and adding more fans. Everything seems to be working, even the usb ports on the front. Running a single 7770 dual fan XFX video card. When my oldest boys friend gets his new system built and give back the second 7770 I will drop that in Crossfire in the system.

Installing the power supply I see where a previous owner has cut out part of the case where the power supply modular plugin's go.

disappointing they clearanced the lightbox instead of using the psu extender bracket. They missing the rear trim panel anyway.

The generic budget grade cooler master is kind of letting it down. Other then that nice build.

Newegg carries them. They are suppose to be best of the best in terms of air flow cfm and noise.

If you were really feeling adventurous you could shorten some of the modular psu cables. Your call though it would make the psu kind of useless with any other motherboard.

That cooler master was already installed on the board, I will be doing more upgrades as time goes on. Since this case isn't perfect I don't mind it not being perfect, lol. On the other Rage F1 I will be doing a lot to it, even color matching it. It's the fabled signed case where all employees signed it for the WOW give away. Leaning more toward color matched motherboard, ram, water cooler and i7.

they are good but a bit overrated. I have had 4 and 3 them have failed after a year of use. Not sure if the newer ones are any better since I really have been keeping for the last 2 odd years....

I am going to try a couple eventually. When I do I will let you know how they are after some usage duration.

Any update on the signed build?

On the Signed case I have been waiting on the release of the new generation DDR4 boards and processors. Intel has some out, but AMD hasn't released there new offerings yet. So I am waiting for that. My oldest boy messaged me this morning saying AMD had just released the FX-9000 so I am going to take a look at that.


The Hexx is still down, Tried the Phenom x 3 combo I had and couldn't get it to post. Same thing with the first gen i7 combo. Got a socket tester for the i7 socket to see if it's the cpu or the board. I have though about throwing the A10-6800K combo I have in there. I just updated it from 8gb 1600 ddr3 to 8gb 2133 ddr3. If it goes into the hexx going to throw the extra coolmaster I have on it. The higher speed ram in the Mitx case has been letting it shut down if I don't run programs to spool the fans up first. I also will be dropping a R9 270x card into it. Ebay is filled with them right now, the coin market died. So people are dumping there hardware.

I haven't done much else to the Ebay Rage case. I did add another 4 gb of 1600 ram for a total of 8gb, (2gb x 4), I got the second 7770 back and ready to install. The kids have been minecrafting and youtubeing on it so I haven't even bothered to install the second card.

I got my new shop last time home and working on getting it set up. Got a Alienware hanger 18 project I have been working on for the tv in the house. All I have left to get for it is a 3 or 4 tb drive, also got a core 2 duo alienware X51 project up and running, working on a few mounting tricks for it.
