Re: G2 is in the building
I have watches that are older than me, which I service every four years or so. It would break my heart to just throw them away.

This formula seems so much simpler:
Broken cell phone = buy new one+no looking back
Broken cell phone = buy new one+no looking back

Unless I'm mistaken, smart phones go for about $500. Maybe I'm cheap, but that seems a bit much to just throw away and buy new every year or two.

Actually, in this case I have been using the same battered POS for nearly four years. I was due.

Re: G2 is in the building
Well, mine is battered and performs erratically. I've probably only had it for about two years, which is why I'm moderately pissed about having to buy a replacement. It's a Sony Ericsson K850i, which was quite good in its day. Problem is, I have no idea what to get as a replacement.

Re: G2 is in the building
This will be my fourth cell phone since 2000, so it is not like I am buying a new one every few months. I have friends that do that.

When you put it like that, I, have only had three phones since 2000, which is when I got my first phone.

My first cell phone was an old analogue Motorola flip phone in the Nineties -- the big wedge-shaped MicroTac like this:
But that was a company phone. My first personal cell was in 1999.

My first phone was similar to that flip phone. I got rid of it when it would no longer stay turned on.
