Hey I stopped playing videos games!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was difficult to break, but I'm doing it for good reasons I suppose it been about 2 weeks. Mainly to spend more time with my son and start being a better example like going outside taking walks to see sun light. "look trees". I hate to say this, but my son is 7 yrs old and he is just learning how to ride is bike that he got when he was 3yrs old......

I've been playing since I was 9yrs old, the longest I have gone with out playing was about 9 months and that was because I was in Iraq causing chaos and destruction(sorry for all the innocents folks to this day I stay up at night...).

GoG just released Temple of Elemental Evil. I may never break free. (The fact that the games are cheap does not help!)

Solid plot + good gameplay + eye candy = no life

Solid plot + good dialogue + interesting characters + complex moral choices >= dated 1998 graphics. Though GoG has a helpful thread devoted to the various mods to improve the resolution of the game and fix other issues.

GoG now has a deal with Atari, and so far they have released Baldur's Gate with its expansion, Planescape, Icewind Dale with its expansion and Temple of Elemental Evil. All games with stellar writing and gameplay, all DRM free, and all work on Vista/Windows 7. And yes, they are cheap!


I will have to tell my wife that someone referred to me as "cheap people." Not that she had any doubts before, but after the Vandersteens she will never consider me "cheap" under any circumstances!

Funny that you mention solid plot and Baldur's Gate in the same paragraph. I love the Baldur's Gate series, but plot has never been a strong point of that series.

Sadly, any gaming I do these days is on the PS3. I can't find the time for dedicated gaming sessions. Oh how I miss PC gaming . . . .

I do not have any problem with the plot in Baldur's Gate, though I will freely admit that one of the only RPGs that I have ever played that had a truly standout main storyline was Anachronox. However, I think what I meant about the Bioware classics was that they had great writing more than great plots. There is more to writing than just the basic story. Planescape in particular stands out.

Funny you should mention that game. I got it back when it was new. At the time I had a IBM Aptiva PII 300mhz 64mb of pc100 ram running windows 95 (Such cutting edge technology ) I Started playing it and liked it but somehow lost the game disc and never finished it. Recently the game disc actually turned up in a box of ancient software buried in the closet. but I went to install it and it won't run under windows xp x64 so I am going to have to dig up an old laptop and install windows 95. (dont worry I found the windows 95 disc in the same box rofl)

Glad to know its worth all this aggravation.

I still have my original discs and installed it recently on a Vista machine and it ran fine under Compatability Mode. Install the most recent "official" patch, and it may be worth fiddling with some of the unoffical patches as well. Spend a bit of time on Google and check with the community as well -- the game has some die-hard fans who may have suggestions to help get it to run.

Anachronox is one of only two games that I have played about which I feel that an interesting book could have been made out of the story. Realms of the Haunting was the other one.

A good game is a good game. I have already replayed both Fallouts and Arcanum via GoG. Fun and cheap.

See, all we had to do was talk about classic games and it was all over.

Let's see how much longer I can go without playing games...... I think I'm coming to terms, I can't quit I'm just going to limit to only playing on the weekends, only if there is nothing else to do (right).
