If I had to do it again the only thing I can say is a set of cherry mx switch keys might have made it easier. They fit into the 2 slots on the switch and you squeeze them and it releases the retainer eliminating the need to desolder the switch to access the tabs. I cant seem to find a place that sells them though.

As far as the keyboard I have been looking for a box to send it out in.

Also have a 3821 and a beat up 2821 on the way. Wasn't in the market for a 4th router but for $8 + shipping I figured the T1 cards made it worth while alone.

Made the 2811 an internet gateway running nat on it from its 10.0.0.0 network to my 192.168.1.0 network. Practicing access control lists pretty hardcore right now. Managed to successfully block all the crappy game servers I am immediately aware of. Also made rules for blocking several social media websites.

Formatted gaming pc, relocated windows profile to data partition and deep froze boot partition. so much for windows rot, windows updates, viruses, spyware, accidental configuration changes, buying full programs when infrequent use of the 30 day trial will suffice... windows...

Its like snapshots in vmware except the base configuration is automatically restored when the system is restarted. Think of it as running windows from ram. No changes get written to disk but they are valid until windows is shutdown or restarted. Windows user profile is migrated/relocated to allow you to edit the desktop, my documents etc and have changes saved to disk. Its not my first time doing this type of configuration lol Just my first time doing it on my own machine.

Working very well so far.

I have seen setups like that, just haven't ever used one. Microsoft use to have there own free software steady state for that for XP, and I think there is a mod where you can do the same thing with 7 with that software.

I had not heard about the microsoft solution. Faronics has been around for a while now. I have only tested deep freeze on windows xp and 7 however I do not see anything that would prevent it from running properly on windows 8 or 10. You may need to disable uefi though. (I never liked giving windows that much control over hardware configuration anyway)

Here are the io numbers my new ssd array and lsi card are currently pushing. Just in time for fallout 4.

My latest voodoo projects - Page 23 HNOrIDC

As you can tell things are not quite WRITE.

Could be because I have an oem variant of the card I cross flashed, could be because I do not have a fastpath key (working on that) but It is most likely because I need to rebuild the array with write caching enabled this time. I let the software nag me into disabling it because my card does not have the battery backup for the write cache. My friend who is a windows server admin gave me a bit of insight on how to pick a stripe size so I am going to tweak that at the same time, Along with a few other settings I found that somebody listed they are using on an IBM m5015 with Crucial ssds just as I am.

Interesting that particular Google search pulled up Vigor Gaming as well. Voodoo at least still has some residual presence out there, but Vigor completely vanished.

I remember vigor too.

This is what I have been up to the past week.

ssd raid is finally optimally configured and running (Thanks to the official lsi configuration guide that I found 3 days later lol)

Which makes read times pretty good but still not on par with an m.2 ssd.

Which inevitably lead to the only possible outcome.

Dirt cheap IBM m5015 (LSI 9260-8i) Cross flashed w/o fastpath ssd raid 0 vs $99 m.2

My latest voodoo projects - Page 23 YOAMWQy

I anticipate it would about tie with fastpath. It looses some ground in the 4k 32 read. That is pretty much your real world performance right there. It beats it on write performance hands down though. I guess in short it depends on your desired application and the rest of your system components (if you have pcie 3.0 and the extra lanes for the m.2) For my multitask gaming pc / workstation it suits my needs. Got it all setup just in time to play fallout 4. Between that, the xeon x5660 hexcore and the geforce 970 the omen x58 build is still holding its own fairly well against much newer rigs.

The performance will scale nicely with 2 more drives. It is being artificially capped without fastpath though. I have a fastpath key I am going to try but I have heard it only works on retail cards. For the ibm card you need the ibm feature key for fastpath. Don't know how true it is but we will be finding out soon.

Also installed a BBU08:

Just got one of these bad boys for the omen:

www.ebay.com/itm/361426836533

It will make a nice upgrade for the omen once I figure out a way to mount it sturdy. I am hoping I can make up some type of custom bracket that use the existing screw holes for the plastic drive rails.

I will let you know if it fits ADOR. Id imagine this would be of interest to you as well.

If all goes well it will allow the 4 3.5" drive bays (or 8 depending on your omen revision) to interface with a raid controller or host bus adapter card via an sff-8087 connector.

Fingers crossed the spacing of the sata connectors is the same between ibm and lian li. An sff-8087 backplane is something I have wanted for a long time in the omen.

I haven't touched my OMEN since I put the water cooled i5 in there. It's a 2400k or 2500k with a 3 way sli motherboard. But other than that I haven't done anything else with it yet. I got a ton of stuff I am working on ebaying. Lot of my older stuff like that i7 cpu and core 2 duo and core 2 quad cpus I haven't used. Alienware cases, etc. Trying to free up space so I can get back to working on them. I moved the other Rage case out to the shed going to pick out one of the mother board I have to drop into it for temp server duty.

As it turns out I believe that backplane is for 2.5" drives. I am keeping an eye out for one that can accommodate 4x 3.5" drives.

It is getting there. Just too bad I started this project thinking one of my spare d900x 7800 video modules would work in this machine. It apparently requires a different vbios. When the working 7800 is inserted it does this overscan / double image thing. I don't suppose I could dump the vbios off the bad 7950 and load it on the 7800, I Haven't been able to dig up the vbios for this machine on oem support sites so far.

Oh well. Back on the back burner until I find a solution. Not in a hurry to brick one of the few remaining spare d900x 7800gtx modules in existence.

Does this take the same 7800 as that last machine I put together? if so I have one 7800 in that P4 machine, another in the dual core version I never swapped out, and the original 6800 in a bag in the shed.

I was banking on that when I started the project. (I went into it thinking, I have a spare working video card that would fit this, Which would be the hardest and most expensive part) Got the entire machine built and found out otherwise lol

The cards are near identical physically (famous last words) I am so tempted to try to dump the 7950gtx bios and flash it on the 7800gtx. I am just worried that the bios for a 7950 isn't correct for a 7800 or the differences run deeper then just the vbios, Thus resulting in a bricked card. I will be on the hunt for a cheap deal on a m570u/m575u video card.

My test adapter is only19v 7.5a. Once I find a 20v 6a for it I will play with it some more. Funny it seems stable even with the artifacting graphics (unlike a certain nameless d870p w/ ati m9700 a while back).

I would like to do a benchmark comparison between my $50 talladega black u709 build and the imola orange m734. I guess I will look into finding an ac adapter next.

To do list:
proper ac adapter
dvd drive (the original one is one of those accursed pioneer drives that the dvd functionality dies on, These plagued vaios too if i remember correctly)
video card
ssd
and thermal compound

I guess I could look into how much it would cost to send this gpu out and get it reballed. I personally find used cards liberated from machines with other major defects are usually more cost effective though. (and I have read some people complaining of reballed cards working initially before dying again a few months later, granted i don't know if the thermal pads and what not were all in place properly when they reinstalled them.)

My personal p3 w98 machine semi assembled for the first time in a decade. It has to come apart again to install the 7th mobo standoff and the voodoo 5500 pci edition needs new coolers and some soldering along with the geforce 4 fan cleaned but everything is inside the case for now which is a good start.

It took an unexpected win2k pro turn though when I was staring at my old superswap 4100 and fasttrak s150 sx4m. I guess it will be a duel boot machine. I also have an intel desktop and soyo 370 (i really should see if that soyo supports tualatin one of these days)

This may require i get a zip drive out of the basement too.

Windows 98 drivers were available for that linksys 802.11b wifi card last I looked. Guess we will find out soon enough if it is doing anything more then wasting a pci slot.
