Re: Photography Appreciation
The photo is of a 1936 Zenith Tombstone radio. Very similar to this one:
I wish America still produced things that are this cool today.

Re: Photography Appreciation
Is this the photography appreciation thread or the clock radio appreciation thread?

Re: Photography Appreciation
Initially i had appreciation for the photograph of the vintage zenith dial, and well apparently others do too
Granted there are not a lot of techniques used in that photo but it looks awesome none the less. Maybe we need a vintage radio appreciation thread as well.

Re: Photography Appreciation
Wow, Did you take those 2 your self?
I like the grain / static It gives the photo personality.
Some photos now in days are just too clear and perfect.

Re: Photography Appreciation
Those were shot on Kodak T-Max 400 B&W, which is the only film stock that I have used for over twenty years. It is extremely fine-grained. Combined with a Canon 50mm f1.2 lens, I can handle most situations without a flash, and can even get good quality 8"x10" prints. I rather like the grain. I will miss film!
(And yes, I took all of the pictures that I posted -- even the photo of Himeji Castle.)

Re: Photography Appreciation
A few more of my wife Eve:
The first is of her laying on a bench on Navy Pier in Chicago during our honeymoon. The second is of her with her sister Hannah on the beach outside of Boston after she ran the Boston Marathon -- I call it my "U2 shot," since it looks like a U2 album cover. The last is of Eve with her first dog Stanley. (You can tell from the latter two that I am also fond of back lighting.)

Re: Photography Appreciation
Has a date been set when film will no longer be commercially available? Is digital being forced on us?

Re: Photography Appreciation
Well, I can still buy T-Max, but it is getting more difficult to get it processed. And no, I really do not have the time (or a particularly good place) to process it myself. I am close to giving up.

Re: Photography Appreciation
Hmmm. It is a shame when someone is pushed out of a hobby because of something like that.

Re: Photography Appreciation
I will still pick up a digital SLR eventually, but you are right that much if not most of the fun will be gone for me. I took great satisfaction in having to plan and execute the shots better (as opposed to having a computer chip do it for me.) I also love B&W and really do not want to shoot in colour -- simply desaturating a colour shot is not the same thing.

Re: Photography Appreciation
Most digital cameras have modes for things like black and white and sepia, though how true those are I don't know. It may very well just be digital trickery.
