I must be getting old
First time in my adult life I wrote an email(letters your kidding me write) to a Company on how disappointed I was with their decision. Anyway they might not take it serious since they might take my writing skills of a 12yr old.
This was in regards to Volkswagen of America releasing GOLF R without DSG, the plus it will have 3/5 door models.

I maybe it can't handle the torque, ...but they do sell them in the current R in Europe?

Re: I must be getting old
Back in the 90's I owned a 92 GTI 16V 2.0L. It had factory bbs(not the ugly looking ones on the GLI), recaro seats, Alpine White, sports suspension. Loved that car...
Anyway I drive a 4door accord now and I can't see myself driving 2 door with the kids in tow.
I think the 4/5door makes the car look longer and sleeker...Me want's, but this year is the first time I owned an automatic and I'm spoiled another reason DSG will be great for this car.

Re: I must be getting old
I like the five-door option. Way more practical and I actually think it makes the car look nicer.
As for DSG, I prefer an old school stick shift. Performance-wise, DSG certainly gets the nod, but it removes too much of the passion from driving. It is way more satisfying to properly nail a heel-toe downshift when coming into a corner than it is to let a flappy paddle do it for you. Plus, what is my left foot supposed to do if there is no manual clutch?
VW decided to omit DSG this side of the pond because they determined that those people in the market for such a car would prefer to row their own gears. Apparently they did a study before reaching this conclusion.

Well I'm sure those who were part of the study were Teens who could not afford this car.
My left foot could go on the dash...

Re: I must be getting old
this email from vw fills the spot when modonna never wrote back when I was 12 yrs old.
Dear Jaime,
Thank you for contacting the Volkswagen Information Center. We are pleased to see your interest in the sporty Golf R scheduled to arrive at dealers in the Spring of 2012!
Â
At this time, there are no plans to offer the Golf R with DSG automatic transmission. Features and package configurations are based on previous model-year sales/service data as well as current marketing objectives. We do not have resources to verify or comment on statements made about our vehicles listed on third-party websites.
Â
Please be assured your comments have been documented and made available to the proper parties at Volkswagen of America. We encourage you to keep checking the Upcoming and Concept Cars Blog on our website at http://blogs.vw.com/conceptcars/, as information on feature availability is subject to change without notice.
Â
Thank you again for your email. We truly value your long-term appreciation for the Volkswagen Brand!

Embrace the stick shift! Plus, how are you going to jump start a DSG, if the need ever arose?

Re: I must be getting old
Short of an all-wheel or four-wheel drive, I will take a front-wheel drive with a stick shift over anything else. I have never failed to get out of any winter messes with that configuration. (Yes, I know that rear-wheel drives are better from a performance perspective, Seamaster, but one must make concessions for living in the Great White North!)

That's why I have roadside assistance.

Re: I must be getting old
Iago: I have nothing against front-wheel drive. And I agree with you about rear-wheel: it is only good for about five months of the year. PO: No need to comment here please. Thanks.
Incidentally, the GTI R that mrblur has his eyes on is all-wheel drive.

Well, only if that stick also has a well-contoured knob.

A nice, slick slot to shift the stick into is also welcome.
