something like that, but it's just a simulator. No play money involved I think.

Re: Steam awesome sale!!!!!!1
I got Arma on a sale from them a while back. If you got the operation arrowhead pack check out the Z-day survival mod for it.
I got this game on steam at first then I seen they had it on sale a while back on GOG. I got the GOG copy just because it is DRM free.
If you need a game to play with your kids check out CASTLE CRASHERS. It was xbox and Ps3 only but they finally released it on steam in September. I wish it wasn't steam only though.
I buy more game from GOG just because they don't have the DRM in them.

Currently my son is playing Minecraft. Just yesterday he was setting up his own server, but was disappointing on how slow it ran on his laptop(time for an upgrade ). We have an ubunto box we don't use much, so it might be the perfect candidate to run as a minecraft server.
thanks for the recommendations.

Indeed!
The current Steam sale, however, does have Torchlight II for $9.99, Dishonored for $29.99 and The Witcher 2 for $7.49. All awesome games, DRM or not. (I bought Torchlight 2 DRM-free directly from Runic, but paid three times as much!) On the other hand, I also picked up the Spiderweb Software Geneforge series from GOG for $14.99 -- that is for all five games in the series -- and if you have the patience for rather retro graphics and turn-based combat, that is an astonishing amount of DRM-free gameplay for fifteen bucks. I spent several months working my way through all of them.

Update on Geneforge: you can have the whole series from GOG for $2 with their pick 5, pay $10 sale. Yikes. Most of the titles are indie adventures and strategy games, but they have some excellent titles like Darwinia and Machinarium among them.

I need to let you talk to my son then. He minecrafts all the time. He has already taught himself how to program in java and has made his own games for years. What type of pc is he on? It might just be the configeration. It played fine on my kids CF-73 (1.7 Pentium M, ATI 9000) and CF-50 (1.7 Pentium M, ATI 9600). They play it now on there new laptops. The CF-74 (core 2 duo 2.0, intel X3100 with modded drivers). Minecraft is ram hungry. You can make a batch file and allot more ram to it. The Hexx bogged on it at first (2.6 dual core, 2 gb ram, dual 7900) but after doing the mod it helps out a lot. There is also a new mod out that loads when the game loads that took one pc I had from 40 FPS to 90 FPS. When he gets out of school I will ask him. I haven't got much gaming done on the weekend. The kids stay locked into minecraft, so much so I have got my own account so I can play with them on it.
We are also working on our own dedicated servers. I picked up 3 Sunfire v20z servers with 8 gb ram each, and two dual core 2.2's in them for 50 bucks each shipped to my door. It was another 20 bucks for hard drive and caddy then we were good to go. We have been experimenting on operating systems right now. Ubuntu 12 loads up fine, ubuntu server loads but need special files (yes you can find them free), windows, needs special drivers that you have to pay for. When Sun got bought out they took all the free stuff down. We have windows 7 x64 on it right now, my son found a work around. We only have one up and going right now and not sure if we are going to daisy chain them for a beo-wolf system or make each of them there own separate server. I have also got a few Sun cd's from ebay cheap. I think a few of the drivers I need are on them even though the model is not right.

The minecraft server is running on his laptop hdx16 - 4gb - and don't remember the rest and to lazy to take a look. It was bought back in 2009.

Well according to amazon that model is Core 2 duo and has 130M GT in it so minecraft shouldn't be a problem. I will talk with my son tonight and see the name of that program and look up the link for the ram tweak.

Thanks but not my cup of tea.
Not sure if I'm getting older or Arma has a high learning curve(okay where is the enemy).

Re: Steam awesome sale!!!!!!1
Looks like the original version. I keep thinking of picking up the pack that includes all the DLC (not good enough internet access at home to dowload GBs of data.) I played it on the PS3 the first time, and I would like to try the PC version, after heavily modding it. I did spend some time at a cafe downloading Dawnguard for Skyrim, along with over fifty mods from the workshop, and holy crap does that game look fantastic now! I know that plenty of modders have tinkered with New Vegas, too, though probably with somewhat lesser results.
