Re: One video a day thread
There's really no beating that without upping the consequence factor. Maybe later.

But first, a number. (Sorry, I cannot direct link to it, but skip to 6:30.)

Off that particular free association, but have you listened to John Carpenter's new album Lost Themes? It is his first "real" album in his entire forty-year career -- not a soundtrack. Apparently he and his son Cody (who has a band of his own) were jamming one day and they decided to make an album together. Despite the title, it is all new material. The whole thing has a bit of an obvious Goblin influence, ans Carpenter and Goblin have been cross-influencing each other for decades, but it also sounds a bit like a harder-edged Tangerine Dream:

I wasn't even aware that he had released a new album. In addition to the Goblin influence, I'm also hearing undertones of the Halloween theme song. Not sure if that's deliberate, or just me free-associating again.

Oh, while I really enjoy his music, he is certainly one who has repeated himself plenty of times over the decades. He has even borrowed from others, deliberately, such as stealing the riff from "The Immigrant Song" for the main titles of Assault on Precinct 13:

I might have posted this before, but it is worth watching again -- you almost need the slow motion replay at the end to clearly see what this border collie does on the "slalom":

Oh, yeah. Nifty thing about that design is that unlike many modern cars (including my ST,) every single vent, including the scoop on the hood, is absolutely real and very necessary. So it is a very pragmatic meanness.
I was not familiar with AutoGuide until a little while ago, but I like Craig Cole's reviews. I like him, actually. He looks like he should be reviewing game consoles, not cars, so it is kind of like letting Eddie Deezen take over the he-man muscle car territory. But he has a Jalopnik style of self-deprecation that I enjoy. Well worth a look.
Try this one, too:

Re: One video a day thread
Craig is a decent host, and his reviews are fun to watch. I do wish he'd push the cars a little more; maybe do something childish like a power slide, but I guess that's not the style their going for, or perhaps he's not comfortable pulling off those maneuvers.
Technically, I don't believe the hood scoop is needed. What is needed is adequate airflow to the engine. That might have been achieved with a larger grill opening. Regardless, the car looks mean and looks cool. I still think I'd opt for an ATS-V just for the stick shift.

That hood scoop leads directly to the supercharger. Cadillac put a lot of time and thought into each of those vents, including the ones for the brakes:

And Cole might have good reason for taking it easy with a Chevy/GM product:

Re: One video a day thread
Oh, I have no doubt that considerable thought went into the design and venting of the CTS-V. All I meant was that the need is for adequate cooling and air flow, and a hood scoop is just one means to meet that need (technically, the need isn't a hood scoop -- semantics). It's actually quite funny. I love the CTS-V, but when it comes right down to it, there is nothing particularly special about the engine. What I mean by that is that it is a 6.2 L V8 with a big supercharger. It's a rather brute way to go about making 640 hp (as opposed to some of the more refined, higher-revving approaches the Europeans or Japanese might have taken with a smaller engine or sans supercharger). But that, of course, is part of the appeal. Simplicity is eloquence. And that growl . . .
I feel bad for the guy driving the Camaro. Shit happens and it seemed like that wasn't his day. He seemed genuinely embarrassed and upset by what happened.
Even the Stig crashes:
