Three reasons to see Pacific Rim
My favorite three reviews, which really sum up my feelings:
http://wegotthiscovered.com/movies/pacific-rim-review/
http://www.neon-maniacs.com/#!pacific-rim-conversational-review/caru
http://www.salon.com/2013/07/11/pacific_rim_city_stomping_robot_monster_delight/
I admit that I am biased, as I am the textbook definition of the target audience for the film; I nearly teared up at the end when it was dedicated to Ray Harryhausen and Ishiro Honda. But damn, I loved that movie!

Hmm. I only read the first review, in case the other contained spoilers. Is the movie kid friendly?

I think so. It is not too scary, and most of the deaths that do happen are off-screen and not up close. It certainly must be more kid friendly than World War Z was.

Re: Three reasons to see Pacific Rim
Eve saw it with me, and she was fine with the movie. She loved it, too. I would put her at an even lower level than SeaJunior -- she cannot handle anything that is scary or too suspenseful. Even a movie like Inception nearly did her in. (The only way that she survived that was by having me tell her before it started that no one really dies in the story.)
I plan to take my older child, aka my father, to the movie on Saturday. I really want to see it a second time.

Seajunior and I were walking by a theatre and he made sure to point out the movie poster. I think we'll be going to see it, especially since it looks like it'll be another rainy weekend.

I took my father to see it in Imax 3D. He loved it, too. I doubt that he can appreciate it the same way that I do; it is literally made for forty-somethings like me who grew up on a diet of Godzilla in the Seventies and graduated to anime in the Eighties. It resonates a bit differently for me than it would for him. But he still loved every minute of it.

Well, it's unlikely to resonate with Seajunior or I in the same way that it did for you. That said, the film sounds like a lot of fun, and sometimes that's all I want in a movie, especially during summer. We'll give it a go. I assume it is worth checking this one out in 3D?

Re: Three reasons to see Pacific Rim
Oh, it is a fun movie no matter what -- no experience required. My father loved it, and the only Godzilla movie he has ever seen is the American remake; the only anime he has ever watched is a few Miyazaki movies. It is fun, any way that you slice it. And yes, the 3D really adds to the experience. It was not shot natively in 3D, but it is the best conversion that I have ever seen. It is really only the live action elements that were originally in 2D; all of the effects work was produced in full 3D -- and we are talking about a LOT of effects work, so arguably the bulk of the film really is a form of native 3D. If you can find it in Imax 3D, even the "fake" Imax, it is worth the trip.

Re: Three reasons to see Pacific Rim
Unfortunately, we didn't get to it this weekend. Seajunior wasn't feeling up to much this weekend, so we kept things low key. He was feeling better Sunday evening, but I knew my Monday would be busy, so we figured we'd go another time.

No excuse, where kaiju are concerned. Guillermo del Toro needs your support.

Well, and better this film than Pan's Labyrinth. I don't think that one would go over well with a younger audience.

Re: Three reasons to see Pacific Rim
The ending on that one wasn't what I was expecting, but it was ok.
In other news last night I borrowed a friends of mines hard drive. He just got back to work from home, he lives in the philippines. I went though his movies folder for something to watch and I seen. "Atlantic Rim" " Hey, he must of labeled it wrong" Nope. It's a knock off movie.

It turns this place "The Asylum" has done several knock off movies.
Here is a quote from some movie reviews
Another Asylum cash-in on a summer blockbuster. Like they did with "Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies" just in time before the release of "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" or "I am Omega" as "I am Legend" came out, so again they do it with "Atlantic Rim" in the time of "Pacific Rim".

Re: Three reasons to see Pacific Rim
Oh, Asylum has been at the knock-off game for a long time now. They pretty much push copycatting as far as they can without getting sued -- though they HAVE been sued for going way over the line. Universal sued them over their Battleship ripoff, and Warner Brothers sued them over The Age of Hobbits -- successfully.
No, Seamaster, very little of del Toro's oeuvre can be considered kid-friendly. But dammit, now you are making me want to watch Pan's Labyrinth as soon as I can. . .

I really need to see how it looks on the new set. With its generally dark photography, it should stand out well. And my goodness, I cannot wait to see Pacific Rim on that set!

Oh, Pan's would look fantastic on a set that can render black levels well.

Re: Three reasons to see Pacific Rim
Never got a chance to check it out. Ended up watching On the Waterfront as I stated in the other thread. But I have most of del Toro's other films as well, save for the Criterion of The Devil's Backbone that was just released yesterday, and something tells me that they will all make interesting test material for the set!
