Abbreviation
(I first knew of him from Robin Hood and Backdraft, but mentioning those seemed too obvious.)

Re: Signs of life?
Whoops. Thanks for posting what I meant to post the first time!
On topic (scary!):
http://blog.moviefone.com/2011/03/09/anthony-hopkins-bond-23/
If that is true, I actually do NOT consider it to be good news.

Re: Signs of life?
It all worked out well; I actually thought you posted that intentially so that I would reply as I did. Reminds me of the red-blue game theory (not sure if you are familiar with the premise), but it's all to do with influence and attempting to play the best move based on what you think the other player might do and based on what how well you can influence the other player to play as you wish. I'm sure you do it all the time when you play poker, which, incidentally, is why I will never play a game of poker against you!
I like Hopkins as an actor and I actually think he would do well in a Bond film. However, I am not a fan of bringing back a Blofeld character, especially as a regular. I had thought with the reboot that Bond was becoming more serious.

Re: Signs of life?
It is all speculation, but I do not think that the article was implying that he would play Blofeld, but rather a recurring villain a la Blofeld. And no, I am not enthusiastic about that idea either, but I am least enthusiastic at the thought of Hopkins being in it at all. He is turning into the British Al Pacino -- I keep expecting him to say "Hoo-ah."

Re: Signs of life?
I think that it happened long before that. Pacino went off his rocker after winning the Oscar for Scent of a Woman, and similarly Hopkins jumped the shark after winning the Oscar for Silence of the Lambs. In my not particularly humble opinion, that is.

He did do an excellent job in Silence of the Lambs, mind you.

Re: Signs of life?
Ah, but even there I will take exception -- Brian Cox played the part better in Manhunter. Hopkins was very good, but Cox played it more realistically and with no trace of hamminess (unlike some of Cox's more recent performances.)

What did you think of Hopkins in the 2010 remake of Wolfman?

Re: Signs of life?
That was the "wacky" Hopkins, which is very distracting for me. I really, really wanted to like that movie. No luck.
I did watch the Blu-Ray for A Bridge Too Far not too long ago, and it was nice to see a Hopkins performance from when he was more subtle about his acting.

If nothing else, the special effects in Wolfman were well done. It was nice to see a film eschew computer animation in favour of costumes and makeup.

Re: Signs of life?
Well, actually my biggest beef was that they still used too much CGI. It makes sense during the actual transformations, but they overused it elswhere. It was ironic that the clips from the film used for its nomination and win for Best Makeup at the Academy Awards all contained liberal CGI!

Re: Signs of life?
To be fair, I am quite lenient toward the film. I have a fondness for the classic monster films, and I have a particular fondness for werewolfs.

Re: Signs of life?
Werewolves are cool, and monster movies are extra-cool. I just did not care for that one. Even a no-budget film like Dog Soldiers was better.

Re: Signs of life?
Well, that or many other great werewolf films. The Wolfman just was not one of them. And while my expectations were low due to the overwhelmingly negative reviews, I was really, really trying to like it anyway.
Speaking of slightly larger monsters, have you seen Monsters yet?
