Re: My voodoo collection
Hell, I wasn't thinking about that other thread. Sorry about that. The starting bid was 100, I put in 108 if that other guy is intrested. If he gets it I may be intrested in getting his left over case if he wants too.
I was thinking at getting some IR work done to it before I tried to use it. I need to focus on getting my U703 back going. I have it and the D900t on the workbench now. I got tied up with this dam BIOS password on this LIFEBOOK U1010 I got. I wanted something small for the plane. Everything works, just bios is locked out, or was locked out. Finally found out three passwords to put into it to get a hash, then a hash cracker to go in and change the supervisor password. Got Toughbook CF-P1 bios battery to change out and a sony vaio ux280p with a busted screen to see if I can get it to boot. Busy, busy.

Re: My voodoo collection
That's true. The newer toughbooks are a real pain on that too. They have a secondary security chip in them, it makes it dam near impossible. I am sure there is a way but I haven't found it yet.

Re: My voodoo collection
With certain thinkpad models you actually have to construct a serial reader for the bios chip and dump the image on another pc.
The good news is once you do you can open the dump with a hex editor and the password is stored in plain text.

Re: My voodoo collection
I have just started reading up on the newer stuff. I would like to fully unlock the bios of one of my toughbooks. I am sure a ton of stuff is hidden.

Re: My voodoo collection
This was listed it has a little less then 2 days left. But it appears you were already aware of that.
Re: My voodoo collection
I seen it and put a bid in, but I figure it will go a lot higher than what I put in. I have one of these, it's my son but I am looking for a replacement for him gaming laptop wise. His started having boot up problems. Since Removing the battery it seems to work fine, and he has got a boot sector virus on it too. I can clean it up and the next day it's back too running SLOW. I have it put up right now. His has a x1600 card in it I think, not the x700 as that one says it is.
I never got to touch the U703 this time home. I did get rid of 11 computers this time home so when the money clears paypal I will have some more play money. Most of them were some I had got for cheap like gobook 2's that a place had most didn't work but 7 bucks plus shipping I stripped the PCMCIA GPS card and antenna out of them for myself and had a few guys I know that wanted the rest for parts so I kind of broke even on those. I have been stripping out and lot of the units I don't plan on keeping so when I have the next 10 or 12 gone of ramdom desktops and laptops my work bench will have plenty of room.

Re: My voodoo collection
I seen that and considered bidding on it but didn't. I have one of these I got a while back but it doesn't work. The case is in great shape. I purchased a regular one to swap parts if I ever get that voodoo desktop I want.

Re: My voodoo collection
I never knew you had the double cage variant. I take it your divider is also drilled for the radiator lines vs mine which has the earlier half circle cut out.

Re: My voodoo collection
Yes I did. Got one with broke hinge and no picture on the screen cheap but was promised to work on a external monitor. It came in two days ago and my son looked it over for me. 30 buck fix on the hinge and it runs fine even has the restore dvd. The back light or inverter is out or loose plug. I will mess with it when I get home. I sprung for the R1 I wanted vga out and manual graphics swap. If I like it I may try to get another used one for my son since his Voodoo messed up. I can fix it but it's locked in a cabinet right now.
I am helping him trouble shoot his dell 745 optiplex right now. It took a dump on him. Got him to pull parts to see what it was. He says the hard drive won't work in any pc, his ram still works and his video card is fine. But it still won't work. I got a amd x3 2.3ghz machine to use as a family gaming server and that is what he is on now. He put his 6gb of ram and video card into it. He is still pissed he lot 500gb's worth of the games he has been making and developing.

Re: My voodoo collection
Did you ever get around to rebuilding the 703? Last I heard you had just about everything you needed but the time.
Re: My voodoo collection
I got everything set out, but ran out of time with Christmas. I going to swap the board from the T model to the Voodoo and try out the daughter board on the voodoo to see if it will recognize the hard drive and cd drives then go from there.

Re: My voodoo collection
I have seen a few pictures of that laptop before. He took most of the pictures of it down on NBR for some reason. All his posts in that thread say the same thing.

Re: My voodoo collection
It reminds me of when a car is done wrong. It looks good at first but then the bondo cracks and the half a body work starts coming through the paint. Bondo isn't meant for sculpting or creating features that did not exist previously. The only correct use for bondo is a light skim to smooth out minor imperfections in sheet metal, And as far as I know true bondo is not for plastic or fiberglass. (Although they do sell products under that brand for such purposes) The upside is at least it wasn't applied over rust
Re: My voodoo collection
I just want to know the story behind the purchase of the laptop. At one time El Prez had to step in, something about the orginal owner of the laptop and payment. We may never know......

If you hung out any at notebookreview he had a build thread there on it. http://forum.notebookreview.com/notebook-cosmetic-modifications-custom-builds/224877-voodoo-envy-u709-clevo-d900k-preliminary-modification-finished-results.html
But it looks like everything was taken down.
