Re: My latest voodoo projects
That picture was supposedly projected by a 10ht. All in all it does not look too bad. It probably looks better in real life but if mine was that clear I would be satisfied. Given the units age I will probably tear the entire thing down and properly clean all of the lenses. It also needs a replacement dust filter. The old one disintegrated when I was removing it to clean it. That should be easy enough to replace though provided I get it working.
The quality level looks acceptable to play some older systems on it as well.
Re: My latest voodoo projects
Hopefully it allows convergence on the consumer menus; some projectors only have that in the service menu (though if you are ambitious and not afraid of screwing anything up, the service codes should be easy to track down online.)

Re: My latest voodoo projects
Given the price, I'd be all over the service menus. It's worth the risk.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
I am really liking this enermax max revo 1350w I picked up for the omen. If you guys need a power supply for a high end build I highly recommend it. My only complaint was the short thick cables make cable management difficult. Of course enermax used nice amply long cables in there display but the ones that come with the supply are so short I was almost unable to use the power supply. At least the fan noise is damn near no existant.
Re: My latest voodoo projects
A couple of days ago I came across a nice samsung lcd tv somebody was getting rid of. it is an ln26a33. It is only 720p but It is hard to beat a free tv. I think im going to hook some game consoles up to it and use it for that. I just wish there was some kind of filter to make the nes light gun work with lcd tvs.
Re: My latest voodoo projects
Given the radical difference in how tubes and LCDs work, I doubt that a filter could do the trick. A scanning electron beam vs. light reflected from a large-scale panel is a whole different animal.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
I just picked up 2 80gb intel ssds for the omen. Tiger has them on special for $40 after rebate. until the 31st of this month.
I am not sure what I am going to do yet but I am thinking about putting my intel 40gb ssd and the 2 80's in a raid 5 array and using it as my boot partition.
I am fairly satisfied with the performance of my 40gb, 40gb is just really restrictive.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
When I bought the new laptop, I debated an SSD for a boot drive and a regular hard drive for the data, but I cheaped out and just opted for two hard drives instead. It seemed much simpler to deal with; the added complexity was not worth it for slightly improved boot times. Besides, I ended up with 1.5TB of storage on two drives, which is fairly to moderately insane for a laptop. Oh, how times have changed . . . (Ye gods, that Voodoo desktop only had a pair 75GB drives in it, and those were in RAID 0!)

Re: My latest voodoo projects
I just got my first three SSD drivers this time home. I picked up that same Intel 80gb drive for the girlfriends CF-19 toughbook. I got a 40GB to experiment with and a 120gb sata 3 one to go into my new to me CF-30 Mk2 toughbook. I really haven't had time to make a judgment call on them yet. Girlfriend says she loves it though so far.

The fact they are 100% silent and emit next to zero heat are also nice selling points.

Anyone interested in a M860? I got a new charger for it too that goes with it. Everything appers to work it just needs a battery and a hard drive. It is great shape on the exterior. Looks barely used for a 8 year old machine

Re: My latest voodoo projects
Got a free dell dimension 5100 today I cant resell because the case is too mangled. Tomorrow I am going to start "fixing" the case. The idea of taking a hammer to a dell is what sold me on the idea. After thats done I will epoxy the cracked front and sand the entire thing down with 40 grit. Some duplicolor and and it should be all done. Might do a 2 tone paint job something like this.
No actual pictures yet but I will see if I can take a few before I get the hammer out...

Re: My latest voodoo projects
I hate to say it, but that is not exactly a completely unattractive case. No classic, but not bad. Post pictures of the mangled version before you get out the sledge.

If you do let me know. I still do small time refurbishing and selling. I will help you with any model info you may need. How much cpu power do you need, and do you need Business rugged, semi-rugged or fully rugged?

Man I loved that chassis. Ijust gave away one to a friend that I bought for $50, but I found it next to impossible to find a btx motherboard to fit its tray.East wrote:Got a free dell dimension 5100 today I cant resell because the case is too mangled. Re: My latest voodoo projects
I wish it was a mangled version of that case... Just a standard pos 5100. After seeing that picture I thought it might look nice with some kind of 2 tone paint job. Not sure how well the design lends itself to it. Banged out the corner of it today which wasn't as bad as I thought. I left the side panel dented (for now) as its riveted in place, Nothing a drill wont fix. The only thing I have added to it was a dvd rw
It looks like its in better condition in the pictures then irl. Normally I would just swap cases but the board is proprietary dell, It is a good excuse to work on my case modding skills. There is no reason it cant be made to look pretty again and resold.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
if you like working on stuff like this you should really look on ebay for some of the new alienware cases that are barebone. Lots of fun tinkering to do.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
Oh, this system was a freebe, Once it looks as good as it runs its getting resold. In the event i botch up the case that bad I will just part it out, and build a system using this chip and the board I have in the closet and resell that. no loss.
