VooDoo Envy M360 Limited Edition motherboard
First of all, it is fantastic that all of you voodoo guys are keeping the community alive
I have this Envy, or the case of an Envy. I seller told me it was a M360 Limited Edition, so I thought I needed a CL56 motherboard. But looking at them they dont seeem to fit into my envy, and dont have the same connectors.
SO I am pretty much stuck, need to know what type of motherboard will fit in :S
BTW, this is white 15" and says Limited Edition under "Envy" below the keyboard, it looks like the one Rahu uses in the building a computer for the pwnerer.
Any help apreciated, and I know you can help me, can post pics if needed....

East or maybe PO will likely have an answer for you. And sadly, "all" of us is amounting to four or five people right now!

I recall seeing pictures with Rahul with it, ...but East will know better what MB will fit in the shell.
Re: VooDoo Envy M360 Limited Edition motherboard
Yeah, i know it is only a few people left here, i joined when you had the next bench, in Voodoos final time. But i know about the history now, and the amount of respect voodoo had among its customers and gamers.
I wish there was a database of all voodoos produced (not customs of course) with pics and specs

Re: VooDoo Envy M360 Limited Edition motherboard
I remember reading about the custom voodoo omen sofa On Rauls blog I think.
I think I remember when that was sold. I may have even bid on it. Is this the same white envy limited edition that was on ebay? My memory of it is vauge but if I remember correctly it was completely dissembled. I use to have the pictures of it saved somewhere for future reference. That thing was in rough shape, Maybe it wasn't as bad as the pictures suggested but id guess that it was missing a lot of screws.
If its the same one that was on ebay it deferentially was not a compal cl-5x series. Unfortunately if you are correct and it is a mitac, parts for them (and entire laptops) are hard to come by. (I know first hand because I have been looking to acquire a spare working mitac 8355 mobo for a while now for future use) k-tron ended up selling me mr. blur's mitac 8355 based laptop because he couldn't find the parts.
I wont know for sure until I see the pictures though.
I will give you some advise though. Don't waste money buying anything for it until you locate and verify you have a working motherboard. And if you are missing screws proceed with caution because it takes very little effort to f up the plastics and the paint job by using screws that are too long.
Nice to see that you are still active.
Edit, oh and the m370 is d870p based and I know for a fact was never produced in limited editions. I dont feel like posting a picture of mine right now so this random orange m370 will have to serve as the reference photo.
I was doing some more thinking about it this morning and I think that "Limited Edition" means that it is painted in one of the Limited Edition paints vs the classic colors.
Speaking of limited edition colors Noir brown still aludes me, I originally wanted an omen in that color but at this point (Considering I already got my omen by less then conventional means) Id settle on a used noir brown laptop, preferably a 709

Re: VooDoo Envy M360 Limited Edition motherboard
Yes, this case was bought on ebay some time ago, it looked poor in the pictures, but had been lucky before( got.new voodoo razer keyboard and mouse for 30$ due to poor pictures) and went for it. It turned out to be in great condition except missing screws and hinge protectors. So now the hunt begins for a mitac 8050 motherboard and all the other missing parts. I also have a couple of questions before I start
There are several types of the 8050, whuch one was used in the m370?
Did Voodoo make any adjustments to the mobos, or are they equal to the ones used in other manufacturers mitac 8050 based laptops like packard bell easynotes?
Does the 8050 come with built in graphics or do I need another card?
I have never built a laptop before, what do I need? ( Ram, hdd, modem, mobo, cpu, dvd)
Will post pictures of it soon.

Just the basic things, Personally I wouldn't worry too much about a modem.

Other desktop models included the EGAD, Doll and F50. And there are probably a few others.

Re: VooDoo Envy M360 Limited Edition motherboard
Even though it is simply a RAGE with two video card, Voodoo originally had the RAGE SLi listed as a seperate model.

That was a lean year for model options.

Re: VooDoo Envy M360 Limited Edition motherboard
Well, it was also literally the first model available with SLi, so they may have listed it seperately because it was something of a novelty back then. My unit was one of the first production SLi systems to hit the market.

Re: VooDoo Envy M360 Limited Edition motherboard
Well I have updated that list, maybe we can have all of them or most of them listed. I need to go back to the web archives and do some looking on voodoo's site. Too bad there isn't much to see on the older voodoo site. Just the opening flash.

Yeah especially of quad sli, Which ran 1.2k for cards alone. Now any budget video card in best buy can beat it hands down.
Re: VooDoo Envy M360 Limited Edition motherboard
Got me a pair of 6800s in mine! Which reminds me -- do you want me to ship it to you as is, or remove the guts first to cut the shipping weight down? By the way, mine has a pair of 75GB drives configured for RAID 0, and considering that I have not had a lick of trouble in over five years despite that risky configuration, it speaks volumes for whatever drives Voodoo used. (I am not even sure what brands they used.)

Re: VooDoo Envy M360 Limited Edition motherboard
Send it the way it is if you don't mind. I want to see how the cable management is done before I tear into it. (Not to mention risk loosing hardware or standoffs coming out attached to the mobo etc) I understand if you want to keep your drives as security is always a concern.
As far as the hdd life span that depends on a few things. Power on hours and the temperature the drive was used at both play roles in determining how long a life it has. I suspect the fact that voodoo mounted them right in back of two 80mm intake fans helped a lot.

Re: VooDoo Envy M360 Limited Edition motherboard
I am going to reformat everything using the Voodoo recovery discs before I send it out, so it will have a fresh 2006-era XP install. I am selling my old laptop to my Dad, and he is going to wipe it out and install XP instead of Vista. At his age he has no desire to change.

Re: VooDoo Envy M360 Limited Edition motherboard
Given the era from which you ordered your Rage, I'm fairly confident you were running Western Digital drives.
Incidentally, if you really want to be sure your drives are clean, you need to format them several times.

I use to use this It is freeware if you want to check it out. Before that I use to use quick clean but that was a long time ago. That does not even work on operating systems that are not windows 9x based.
Re: VooDoo Envy M360 Limited Edition motherboard
I am not too worried about it. If all else fails, I will play frisbee with the platter for a while.
