I was doing some research to find a reputable oem for you incase you are interested in the Clevo P170HM. I found that AVA Direct has very pleased customers, Check out there resellerratings page for yourself. I only found one bad experience in the few pages that I looked at and it looks like the company bent over backwards to make the issue right and in the end it was right despite the 1 star rating the person gave them.

We are talking about repainting the interior of our house (which frankly may only have primer, not real paint) since it has already gotten scuffed up quite a bit. I will be paying someone else to do it. Those are hours of my life that I could never get back.

The only thing I didn't like is when I sorted by rating and dug back far enough (to the 68th page to be exact) The reviews went downhill. for the last 4 pages. I guess that 68 pages of positive reviews is still good.

Professional painters are a blessing. They use spray guns. Not only are they done quickly, but the paint bonds better and more evenly than if using rollers and a brush.

Well, we may go semi-pro rather than true professional. While I am mostly intersted in saving time, I have no objection to saving money! (We can probably use the same person who does the painting at the apartments that Eve manages.)


East: I am still thinking about it -- no rush here. If you have another idea for any other vendors to consider, let me know. Incidentally, I am not interested in any base model in particular -- it just happens that some of the vendors at which i was looking were basing their laptops off that platform. I am wide open. What I have decided for certain is to go with at least one 485 and possibly two, depending on price, and the fastest reasonably-priced processor that I can get from the particular vendor. (In other words, I am not shelling out any extra for "extreme edition"-type chips.) I definitely want a 17 inch with at least 6GB of RAM, and likely a SSD drive for the OS and at least a 500GB 7200 RPM drive for storage. (I may compromise there, however and simply put a couple of 7200 RPM drives in instead. I am not yet convinced of the need for SSD.) Minimal or no bloatware would be preferable; I am going to use Microsoft Security Essentials at this point for security, and would like a good deal if possible on Microsoft Office Home/Student.

I have been thinking about it and really considering the volume avadirect does the couple pages of low ratings are not that bad when you compare them to other clevo distributors on the "clevo guide"

I think that xoticpc would be my second choice. They have solid 9.82 on resellerratings

Never looked at XoticPC before. I will take a look. I am less impressed by lengthy listings on reselleratings than I am by one or two friends with personal experience.

At a quick glance, XoticPC scores in the warranty department -- one year parts/three years labor, free shipping both ways, and lifetime telephone support is standard, and can go up from there.

I've had good experiences with AVAdirect, ...I wouldn't be afraid to spend $$$ with them.

RE: painting; I'd try to get the crew/ person doing the apartments. ...oh, and if they spray ask them if they can back roll the walls, looks nicer.

XoticPC's website organization is a bit hairy. I clicked on a computer type and was overwhelmed with options . . . . Good prices, though.

Well, and the warranty and support are better than what AVA direct offers. Things like that are important to idiots like me.

Out of all of my old game consoles I would have to say my favorite is my n64. 3d was so mind blowing back then and nintendo made the hardware limitations into character uniqueness. I am glad that back in the day I got it instead of the playstation. I think that when I get board with the genesis I am going to have to get that out next. (Im going to have to finish lunar 1 and 2 first though at the very minimum.)

I think that since everybody wants such outrageous prices for working turbo cd systems I am just going to put my efforts into making a turbo grafx controller work with a pc and then take that crappy hp s3100n that i got for free a few weeks back and rebuild it with a mini itx board and run arcade maximus with magic grafx (and a few other emus) and hook it up to my tv, Problem solved at a fraction of the price. I just wish there was a way to actually quit arcade maximus when you are done using it. Since it was ment to be used in an arcade they go under the assumption that the user should never have access to the windows gui.

Are you going to pick up one of these if they ever ship?

That looks awesome. My c64 has been put away ever since the power adapter went. It does work but I have yet to find a reasonably priced replacement.

I think its interesting that these are officially licensed products. I cant wait to see how this turns out.

I wonder how hes handling the cases, Like are they nos cases that he is modifying or are they old cases or did he manage to secure the mold too?

I don't know that its an official build. Looks more like a DIY build but that thing looks so sleek.
