A Little Bit of Black Keys and Breaking Bad

Eve and I watched Rushmore on Blu last night. Looked and sounded spectacular. I dearly love that film.

I know. Who would have thought that Owen Wilson was capable of co-writing such a clever script! (I actually think Wilson is quite underrated.)

Criterion also has Bottle Rocket on Blu, which was also co-written by Wilson. Another great film, but Rushmore is still my favorite Wes Anderson film, with The Royal Tennenbaums as a close second.

I'd have to agree, though you have reminded me that I need to rewatch The Royal Tennenbaums.

I am holding off in hopes that they announce a Blu-Ray for it.

Intersting that while I still like Anderson's films after that, I think that his scripts with Noah Baumbach instead of Wilson have dropped in quality a bit. Baumbach is a talented writer, and I certainly would have never thought that I would prefer something written by Own Wilson!

That's cause Wilson comes off as a one-dimensional depressed sort, but he does have his moments.

Well, and it may also be that he flourishes under collaboration with someone like Anderson. Which may be why Baumbach and Anderson's scripts fall short of that: they are both strong solo writers in their own right, and their collaboration suffer from that.

Good point. Sometimes it's not a case of having too many cooks, but too many good cooks.

It is similar to my Mark Wahlberg theorem: Wahlberg is only good when he has an ensemble cast to play off of. Put him as the lead and he falls apart.

Oh, I agree with you there. He doesn't interview very well either.

His press agent should probably make this clear to interviewers up front: no 9/11 questions allowed!

I recall seeing the cover of the Men's Fitness issue that featured Whalberg. I'm surprised they even published something like that. I guess he must think of himself as a real-life superhero.

He is certainly in good shape and would be a logical choice for their cover, but it does appear that his roles have gone to his head. Probably along with copious quantities of mind-altering chemicals.

Well, he also came from the street and a life of crime. And, he boxes regularly. But being able to handle yourself in a street fight or an amateur boxing ring doesn't necessarily translate to being able to neutralize several suicide terrorists armed with mace, tear gas and edged weapons, and hellbent on crashing a passenger airliner.

Speaking of Wahlberg, there was interesting interview with Ice Cube on Moviefone yesterday where he gives his own version of the dust-up between George Clooney and David O. Russell on the set of Three Kings. It seems like it is probably the closest to the truth. The interviewer also mentioned that supposedly Mark Wahlberg does not want to work with Russell anymore, which is a bit surprising.

Actually, I followed the link within the link to the story being referenced about Wahlberg not wanting to work with Russell again, and that may be an overstatement. All that he said was that he wanted to go a different direction with a sequel to The Fighter and was looking at different directors. You can read between the lines on that if you wish, but nothing in that gave me the impression that he meant that he would never star in any Russell movie again.

dang... I swear I didn't know it was a teen movie.

Worse yet: I have seen all the stories on it in the movie press for a long, long time now, and up until a few weeks ago I assumed that it was the next installment in the Twilight series. (Needless to say, I never read any of the stories.)

But I can't see how it's a teen movie....
