Re: My latest voodoo projects
I still have one of those in the attic with the computer. Old Pentium machine that was in the school and it's one of those models that had the "turbo" button if you remember them, lol. I tried to put DSL linux on it several years ago. Boots, then the install fails. Why it's on long term cold storage.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
I have been wanting to rebuild my pentium 3 gaming pc for a while now just like it was when I stopped using it 10 years ago. The motherboard and case had gotten seperated and I ran a more modern board in there for a while before moving onto a more modern looking enclosure. I have most of the stuff some of the smaller things got misplaced though.
I just got another Tt volcano 7 cooler for it just like the one I had back in the day, I ended up reselling my original after I was finished with it for what I had paid for it. My father has been bugging me about building him a new pc so I should be getting its geforce 4 ti 4400 back soon.
Provided windows 98 drivers are available I am thinking about putting my promise fasttrack s150 sx4m and superswap 4100 in it. It will look really sweet and add sata functionality to an otherwise ide system, Which is good even if it is 1st gen 1.5gb/s sata because you cant get the damn ide drives anymore.
This thing was in a huge full tower case that is as big as my old desk. I still have the case in the closet it isnt chipped or discolored, Still looks almost new. It is cheap codegen case. I remember picking it up back then because it was $24 and included a 350w psu Thats the other thing, I resold the 350w when I was finished with it. (even the budget crap was quality stuff back then) So I guess I will have to throw in the smallest thing I have laying around which I think is an 800w, That is unless I put the 800w in my xeon and steal the 700w out of that. Damn its too bad neither is modular.
Anyway its going to look something like this:
Codegen fulltower
800w psu
shuttle av18e
pentium 3 1.0ghz
2x512mb kingston 133
geforce 4 ti 4400 agp
voodoo 5 pci edition
audigy 1 (currently using that card in the omen)
lan (would be nice to find the card I was using back in the day if only because windows 98 had the drivers built in, Should be the only lan/bnc combo card I have)
promise s150 sx4m
hp dvd+rw
sony 24x cdrw
superswap 4100
I could upgrade the optical drives but for nostaliga I will keep the same ones I had in 2001 since they are still mounted in the case.
Oh I forgot the 3.5" fdd on that list, Thats still in there too.

My copy of os/2 warp v3 3.5" floppy edition on no less then 35 floppy disks. (including the bonus pack) Its hard to imagine why it flopped...
I also have warp v4 around here somewhere on a single compact disc.
Too bad my old thinkpad 700 monochrome is dead...

Re: My latest voodoo projects
It felt like christmas today. Just wanted to thank you. The swag arrived today.
Took a lot of elbow grease to restore the rubber grip back to its original condition. I hate how the materials logitech uses wear out prematurely. Its not just this mouse all of my logitech products seem to do it...
The binder is great. I wonder where your VDRS disc 2 ever ended up. The copies skip from disc #1 to #3
After that was over I came across the first pentium 1 desktop i have owned in many years. It is a gateway p5-100 or 100mhz "baby at" pizza box. Unlike some other pizza box systems I have had in the past this one stands quite nicely on end. It was dead when I first got it but I quickly had it posting. I am optimistic for it. Its nice to have a desktop system of this era around again. In addition to having an ISA adaptec scsi card it also had some type of specialized card in it that barely fit. It is a full length card with some type of amd processor on it. It was not possible to actually seat the card in the system as a capacitor on the mobo is in the way. I am not sure how it came to find its way in this system and I am still not sure of its purpose. It has an unuseual dsub connector I have never seen before. Speaking of which the caps are all in great shape for a system of this age.
When I first got it I was really hoping it was one of those atx pentium 1 gateways. I wanted to do a custom build but this case isnt that bad to work in.
Edit, Just found out that the card is a COMPUTONE INTELLIPORT AT8. (2-1000 on this list according to the number on the pcb silk screen)
Looks just like this one.
I still have no idea what a card like this would be used for. Oddly enough this cards main processor has the amd logo on it and underneath says copyright intel 1978. If I remember correctly amd got started by former intel engineers. Not sure if this thing is old enough to somehow tie into that... Or does that mean that it is an amd clone of an intel chip used under license? hmm... N80I86-10 After checking with google it seems to be an amd clone of the intel n80x86 microprocessor.
Interesting.
Apparently it was some type of card that allowed multi users on one computer. See this article.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
I'm glad to see you got everything. Yeah those are the re-image disks from voodoo and you should have the window key in the binder. I'm just hoping the disc 2 were not thrown away. It should be somewhere in the garage.
I really hope you can get that M855 up and running.

The beast lives. I will try to get some pictures of it after dinner.
Voodoo Envy m:380 Resurrected: (Just like the one seen in pc mag back in 2004)
I think this one has enough room for an ide to sata adapter. I might have to give it a try.

Seeing east 380 has made me remember that I'm still looking for a 909. Has anyone ever seen one?

Re: My latest voodoo projects
He claimed the motherboard had failed. There was some stuff still attached to the base plastics that may have been ok but was questionable. It got a new vrm board, motherboard, serial daughter board (couldn't tell if the old one was burned or if it was just flux from when it was assembled) and fans.
Its running pretty well. It could use some more ram, a faster Pentium m, and some ic diamond though. If it got that stuff it could probably run windows 7 decently with all of the visual crap disabled. I was kind of hoping he would send along the battery to fill the hole (especially if it was dead) but I guess not.
I finally got the correct webcam driver loaded last night and as it turns out the webcam module is bad. I have a spare I am going to try though.

I think ape has a 909, but I've been trying to buy it from him for the last two years.... Let me ping and see if it's still available.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
Got the tactx working but I didnt solder it yet. Just making sure I am not wasting my time first. I will probably get it soldered some time this week. I need to find the damn shrink tubing first.
Re: My latest voodoo projects
These 2007-08 ish lian li cases are starting to become hard to come by. They are the best lian li cases imo. Without voodoo around to sub contract them it seems there newer cases are slipping in quality and made from thinner metal. If anybody is looking to do a build that is the case I would do it in. I believe that is the case the omen-r was based off of.
Re: My latest voodoo projects
Yes those are some solid cases. I still remember my first Sonata Antec case, for a built.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
In the interest of getting the omen cabled properly I have been trying to track down the vendor and model of the original psu. knowing voodoo is famous for using enermax supplies I figured the cables would interchange with my maxrevo. I finally got a positive id and was rather surprised.
http://www.modthebox.com/review433_1.shtml
As it turns out it was an E-Power Tiger EP-550P5-T1. Even if it was the same connector they are damn near impossible to find used. A testament to there build quality I suppose (or lack there of). Where as if you search for noisetaker on ebay you get a ton of results.
I think that I will be taking this matter up with enermax. Its a fair assumption that consumers requiring a 1350w power supply are using this beast in a full tower case, Which is why it is completely obserd that the pcie cables bairly reach and are stiff as hell preventing any kind of cable management whatsoever. If you want to get technical the omen is not even a full tower. It is a mid tower compared to my lian li v2000. I will be making it clear to enermax that I am extremely dissatisfied and unless they can make this right I will not be buying there products going foward. I am also going to point out that they had no trouble finding cables of ample length for there stupid display. citing this image

That PSU on the left is a Topower Silent Green
Topower Silent Green
If you check, I bet all the different companies mentioned, will come out of the same address in the City of Industry, CA.
I have one sitting around if you need it.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
East I would have to agree the Enermax cable are short. I installed an enermax 850w platimax, and I was not able to route the cables like I would have liked. So at the moment it looks messy until I can find either longer cables or ninja the cables very carefully so it doesn't put to much stress on the video Card.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
As originally installed in an omen rev 2.
It was a blind assumption that the cables were modular, Enermax uses a proprietary 12 pin connector, Which is absolute bs.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
