Re: The 83's Project Thread
Well its official. The car is at the body shop. So far they managed to get the driver side recaro out which was rusted in place. If I had to guess I would say they used bolt cutters or a torch to get it out.
Took 2 trips but both floor pans are up at his shop. Tomorrow I will be bringing up the subframe connectors.
Its only been a few hours but it feels weird being trans am less.

How long will the car be at the body shop?

Re: The 83's Project Thread
The initial estimate was 2 weeks but he found some more rust after he got it apart that needs to be fixed so it may be a bit longer then originally thought. I should have it back by the end of this coming month at the very latest.
It might take a bit longer because he found a leak in the cowl area that is letting water drain into the car. He is confident he can cut it out and patch it with a piece of metal. It just might take a bit longer to get the car back. I am not quite sure how he is going to go about doing that with the dash in the car. I may end up making a cowl block off plate for it until I can pull the dash and motor and have him repair the area properly.
We couldn't see it until he got the floor out but the subframe is going to require a patch as well on the side closest to the transmission.
The new pans are going to be coated with por 15 on both sides. Inside it will be top coated in black. Underneath it will be painted black and then undercoated to further prevent water from getting at it.

Sounds good. And I forget, are you also doing work on the engine (I recall you discussing frame and suspension options)?

Re: The 83's Project Thread
I have not seen it yet but the drivers side is in and hes started on the passenger side.
He also pulled out the heater box and core to fix a water leak. (Body rot not a leaky core)
I have been told the work looks very good. I will probably check in on it the end of the week.

Re: The 83's Project Thread
my brother in law had a Hurst TransAm.... Sold it for 3000 dollars not running, interior tore up, window broken or missing, super faded paint....Some guy from Sacremento came down with a trailer to picked up from los angeles. The whole time the guy was saying my wife is going to kill me....HAHAHAHAHA
Actually I think he sold it for more. He bought it from a neighbor for 200 dollars and a case of beer.

Re: The 83's Project Thread
I'm usually good at this game, but on some I'm lost too. I see the firewall and floor pans, but why do I see an airbag in the middle of it...?

Re: The 83's Project Thread
Everything is just about done. He was putting the front wheels back on it when I was there yesterday. He fixed everything in that area. Even the bent and rusty fender tabs from years of improperly jacking the car. Everything looks great under there and I am really looking forward to getting the car back and seeing how it rides with sfc's. Looks like I will be getting it back the end of this week just like his time estimate when I dropped it off.
Re: The 83's Project Thread
The car is back home where it belongs. I however am not. I will have to get some better pictures up when I get home.

Not really worth starting another thread, and it seems appropriate for here, but there are some interesting choices in this list:

Re: The 83's Project Thread
Strangely, I recognize and know of most of them . . . .
Adding to that, my dad had a Capri and I nearly bought one in my younger days.
